WW while nursing??

Has anyone done WW while nursing?? I just ordered the complete kit from Amazon (I have done WW Online before, so I know the jist of it, but I wanted all the tools so that I could make a real go at it)...I am not a meeting girl, so I don't find going to them helpful...that is why I do it on my own. I had a lot of success in the past. I have already lost all of my PG weight, now I just need to lose the 30 lbs I needed to lose before I got PG.

If you have done it while nursing, did you use all your points? I get 35 and that just seems like so much. Last time I did it, I got 25 and most days it was a struggle to get them all in. I know that I should eat all my points, because I need the calories and nutrients to feed my DS, but it seems kind of hard to make up the extra 10.

Do you also get 35 flex points a week if you do the flex plan?? That would make it 40 points a day..Wowsers!!!

Re: WW while nursing??

  • I started doing WW during my last 2-3 weeks of nursing.  I was also only nursing in the AM, so I decided to NOT add the additional 9 points per day they give you.  (this was back in August)

I do plan on doing WW again after this baby arrives, But I agree that the extra points does seem like to many!  I hardly ever dipped into my weekly points either.

Keep me posted on how you do, I'm curious how it will work with nursing and any "side-effects".

  • I did it while nursing.  I did the flex plan and thought that they gave me WAY too many points.  If I used all of the points, I didn't lose any weight.  When I just stuck to my daily points allotment and didn't use the flex points, I started to lose about a pound a week.
  • Someone asked my leader this question back in the day.  According to her, the extra points were supposed to be for extra dairy servings.  I've heard different theories on the WW message boards, though.

Maybe you should try using them for a week or two to see if you lose any weight.  If you don't, go back to using your regular amount of points.  No harm, no foul.  :)

  • You also don't want to lose more than a pound per week, or it willcause your milk supply to decrease.  That's why you get so many points.

  • Hey there,

I'm actually a Weight Watchers leader (and currently pregnant with my first).  All you Flexers out there, we have a new program called Momentum now, which is fantastic.  Yes, nursing moms have different nutritional needs than our regular members.  We now give out a separate pamphlet to nursing moms when they join that says what those 10 extra points should be used for.  (That's also for full time BF.  If you're supplementing, you get 5.)  My advice would be to go to one meeting to pick up all the info ($12).  That way you can also ask the leader any questions you have.

I'm planning on starting the program as soon as baby is born, and I can recognize my arse from my elbow!  Anyway, let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
