I think I did one day of rice cereal and then just kinda started feeding her regular solids like bananas, sweet potatoes, etc. I still mix cereal in with all of that b/c it seems to make some of the foods less bitter. The bananas were so bitter that I gagged when I tried them. Ish.
I started at 5 months. She was exhibiting all the cues for starting food.
I started with Rice cereal with one feeding at night and then added sweet potatoes. After she started taking this feeding well, we added a lunch time feeding with veggie + Rice. Now we will offer various fruits/veggies as we test em out. She still gets Rice Cereal at least with one feeding.
I give up trying to add my kids' photos. Just know that they are adorable.
I did oatmeal a little then solids. ?Started with butternut squash. ?I mix oatmeal in with everything so he gets the benefits from that. ?Never did rice and still haven't. ?Good luck! ?Check out www.wholesomebabyfood.com?

i try to put a little rice 1-2 tablespoons and mix it in with each meal. Sometimes i don't add any water or formula, it just thickens up the puree up a bit. DD seems to prefer her purees thicker also.
cereal is good b/c it is fortified with iron and other vitamins. use oatmeal if your LO is constipated, as rice sometimes causes constipation.
We started solids the day she turned 6 months, and we did start with rice cereal. We did a homemade cereal with brown rice and mixed in a little breastmilk. Stuck to that for a week, then we did a millet cereal. Now we are on butternut squash, and carrots will be next.
Can't say there's a specific reason why, it just seemed like most people started with rice cereal. But we did consider starting with sweet potato, avocado or banana.
we started him on homemade brown rice cereal because it had the most calories and he's a heart baby so he needed as many as possible. The second food was avocado b/c it is high in calories too (and we usually have it around so it was easy!).
