I am uber jealous! But just for curiosity, how much do you pay per month? Ours is through DH's work and it's over $300/month. We have a $750pp deductible and then they cover 80%. We're new-ish to the US and knew we'd obviously be paying a lot more than in Canada, but I kind of feel like our insurance plan sucks!
Re: Those who have ins that covers 100%
I don't really think anyone has insurance that pays 100% of everything. Most people have some kind of deductible and co-pay at least.
My employer has fantastic benefits. We pay about $150/month for two adults. Our deductible is $300 and then they pay 90% after that.
We would have the same insurance whether it was through me or DH because we both work for the state government, but the premium is only about 1/3 of the cost to pay through him as a "Graduate Student" than through me (a regular employee), so we do it through him. We only pay about $37/month for Family coverage, and it covers 100% of everything we've ever needed -- it just doesn't cover glasses (but does cover an annual eye exam) and doesn't cover all dental expenses (but so far everything we've needed, even with DH's sucky teeth that need fillings ALL the time, has been covered in full). We do not have any deductibles or co-payments.
The UN-subsidized annual premium is around $20,000 per year.
Edit to original: We do have a $60 co-pay if we go to the ER, but that's it.
our insurance pays 100% of all hospital related stuff.
and i am unsure as to how much we pay monthly because my husbands group insurance takes it out of his check before we get the money because he works for a union. its a sweet deal!
and btw, not to brag but we have no co pay or deductible
we pay $140 a month for the two of us for medical (employer pays the rest of it). I have no deductible to pay, but have to pay $30 co-pay for seeing the dr each month (they are specialists). I also have to pay a $300 copay for being admitted to the hospital. Other than that, I dont have to pay anything.
It is different in different parts of the country, and depends on the plan and how much the company is willing to pay to help out (if they do at all). some companies want the cheapest for them, so that means crappy insurance for you.
Are you sure you don't pay anything? We get $11 and some odd cents taken out of each paycheck... hmmmm which Tricare do you have?
Our insurance just changed this year and I think we pay around $200/month and we have a $600/person deductible with a 1200/person out of pocket max. Oh and they cover 80%. I think it's just nice to know that no matter what, we won't be paying over $1200.
For both DH & I it's only like $50 per month. My benefits at work are pretty awesome.
However, before I was laid off, I had insurance through Kaiser. It was about $250 a month for the both of us. I paid a $5 co pay, and the birth was going to be $250. ?
Well pleaseeee help me figure out a way to make the system work for me. Bragg doctors are quite possible the worst doctors in the world... 'Oh your having contractions? Here's some percocet...' ummmm no thanks.
We have Tricare too because DH is in the Army. I know a little bit comes out of his paycheck, but it's very minimal--no more than $20 for the both of us. Everything's going to be covered with no deductables or co-pays...you just have to make sure things are coded correctly. For example, when I had my first ultrasound for dating, the office didn't code it as a dating u/s and we ended up getting a bill. We just had to call and have it re-sumbitted.
I'm very thankful for all of it...he's getting PCS'd 4 days after my due date and I am not going to be able to move because we can't sell our house. We're going to end up with a lot of extra expenses so it's nice to know that all the medical stuff is covered.
I pay $75 a month for the entire family, and it pays 100% inpatient, 90% outpatient, and 85% physician. BUT, I work at the hospital, and the hospital has it's own insurance plan. So, it's not exactly like the "real" world when it comes to insurance.
When I had my DD I had a $500 deductible and then maternity was 100% covered after that. Other areas of care were a 10% co-insurance. My monthly portion taken out of my paycheck was a couple hundred, but I don't remember exactly as it was 2 years ago. All I paid out was $500 for my prenatal care and delivery (plus the monthly portion out of my paycheck).
Anyway, the plan was so great because that is what the school offered. I was told the previous director had negotiated the "Cadillac" plan because of an illness she had and she wanted to make sure she was covered which in turn covered the staff. The contract for the school was up for re-negotiation right after I had DD and the new director and board put the plan back to the usual 20% co-insurance. I became a SAHM though, so now we are on DH's plan which is a 10% co-insurance.
Our insurance is for a family plan (currently DH, Me, SD and DS) It is around $200 a month. The delivery will have a $400 ded and the insurance will pay 90% after ded. It is pretty decent/normal insurance I would say.
Ditto MrsAYC! I agree that we pay in a much different way.
We are covered under my work and do not have to pay anything monthly for health insurance. Our insurance covers 90% of everything and we have to pay for the other 10%. We don't have an annual deductible or co-pays, just $5/prescription.
HA! I had surgery at Walter Reed and they tried to give me ibuprofen for pain after. Give me a break! I'm not active duty so don't give me that load of crap that painkillers aren't necessary after being cut open.
My insurance is 90/10, but it covers maternity 100%. We pay, like, $300 a month? I don't have a deductible for the baby.
That being said, just got laid off (I'm not bitter or anything), and so it will only cover us through the end of June....bastards.
Wow I am really getting the short end of the insurance stick. I work for a very small company and opted for the "buy up" insurance program. I get $60 taken out of my paycheck a month, have $1000 ded, then I pay 80% with a $3000 stop loss. So the max this little one could cost is $4000...well worth it though but still.
I'm a teacher and my district has awesome health insurance. The district pays $500 a month for me (I pay $0), and this baby is going to cost me nothing. I called my dr office to see if they could send me a bill so I can get it paid off before LO comes, and apparently, I'm gonna pay $0, even after delivery and post-natal care.
