Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is there a rec. on how early to take newborn on outing?

I've already taken my baby girl out and she's just over a week old. Just wondering!

Pedi recommended 2-3 weeks, but I took DD out sooner to things that weren't avoidable.

  • I'm curious about this as well...
  • We took her out after she was over 1 week and she did great. We went out to eat and she slept the entire time.
  • My pedi said 3 months.  We would do short trips right away, but I wouldn't let anyone get close.  After his 2 month shots we went out more - still don't let strangers get very close.

  • my pedi never said.....DS went with us BRU at about a week.  he is still alive to tell the story.

i just didn't let anyone come near him.

  • We started taking her most places with us at about 5 days old. We just keep her in the car seat and don't let people get too close.
  • We were at the mall and Friendlys for lunch at 4 day old.
  • My pedi never said anything, however DS went out to Target and BRU at 4 days old and we went out to Costco at 8 days old.  I never restricted him going out.  If he was born in cold and flu season I probably wouldn't have been out so early.

We stopped by my grandmother's retirement community on the way home from the hospital.   DD has been out and about ever since then - almost every day.  She's a lot less fussy in the evening if she's been in the car and out somewhere during the day.  And I don't keep her away from everyone.

The only thing that I've heard recently is that FF babies need to be kept in for a couple of weeks because they don't get the immunities from mom.  I don't know if that's true or not though.
