Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Help!

Does anyones almost 3 month old not sleep through the night yet?  My LO sleeps for about 5-6 hours and then wakes up for n hour feeding and goes back to sleep for another 2-3 hours.  He also only takes cat naps during the day.....please tell me I am not alone!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help!

  • My DS is still doing that....DD woke up 1 time a night until she was around 8-9 months old.

  • My ds just stopped with night feedings at about 5.5 months.  Really, at 3 months most babies should still be waking to eat.  I've read that around 4-6months most babies are able to go that long w/o eating but there are still outliers who will sttn before or after that age.

My ds was the same way though-one night time feeding and then cat naps during the day until I did "sleep training." (I use that term verrry loosely Wink)

  • DS woke up every 3 hours to eat until he was exactly 3 months old, then he sttn completely out of the blue.  There is hope!

  • What do you mean by sleep training?

  • You are not alone...my lo is doing the same thing.  I'm bf'ing, don't know if that's why...but I'm thankful that it's just the one night feed...I think we are in a good place.

Sleep training is where you let them cry it out until they start to get the message that they are not going to be tended to and they eventually fall asleep.  You have to decide what type of parenting "techniques" you want to use and what works for your family.  Sleep training would never work for me and my family, we just do not agree that it's ok to leave them and let them cry...even if only for short periods.  But I realize that's our opinion on it and others will choose to sleep train.  I know that the downside of not doing it is that our lo doesn't go to sleep at the same time each night and wakings vary somewhat.  I'm ok with that though.

Check out www.askdrsears.com for more info on "attachment parenting"...I'm not sure what a good resource for sleep training would be since we are not going that route.  Good luck.
