Re: alleriges and pedi GI

  • We take ds to an allergist, not a gi doc for his milk allergy.  He was dx w/"milk protein sensitivity" b/c he had blood in his stool at about 1 month.  He then developed extreme excema all over his body and pedi recommended we see an allergist (after trying ever imaginable thing for his excema).  I just took him last week and they did a scratch test and he is 100% allergic to milk.  We switched him from alimentum to soy and he has done great so far.  GL!

  • thanks. blood in his stool has been his primary symptom. some tummy discomfort and some rash around his mouth. i did the elimination diet and after 7 weeks it came back now we are on nutramigen and it is not working and we have more mucous/blood. you must be relieved to know what it is! i suspect my lo is allergic to more than just milk/soy since he is still reacting to the nutramigen
  • I always suspected he was allergic to milk, but since he was on alimentum, which is hypoallergenic, I thought it had to be something else.  The allergist said alimentum/nutramagin are still milk based so some babies still have allergic symptoms while on them.  Maybe that's what is going on w/ you lo..they tested ds for soy and milk allergy and since he was just allergic to milk it was an easy fix by going to soy.
