I'm pretty sure DH will not like this, but I'm determined to change his mind! I have a list of other names I like, but this one os meaningful to me and unique.
I've spent alot of time in Paris, and always liked the name (despite Paris Hilton!) since high school, where we had a Paris. I always thought, wow, what a beautiful and unique name! And I've always been a big traveller. Madelyn was my grandmother's name, and Madelena would be an ethnic twist on her name.
?
I've never cared for trendy names (Cadyn, Aiden, Bradyn, Jayden, Madison, McKenna). I prefer either unique, ethnic names or classic names like Rose, Anna...
?
DH vetoes most of the names I suggest, but never suggests any of his own! ?
i agree with others who are not so excited about paris. but do like madelena. since you like ethnic names, what about a twist on paris? i have a persian friend named parisa... i think a beautiful name! i forget the meaning - saw it my baby book too - but it has a very nice meaning.
I'm an avid traveler too, and I understand wanting to make a connection with a meaningful place. Since French speakers, pronounce it "pa-ree" would you pronounce it that way too?
Paris as a name isn't really my style, but I think maybe a French name (like Colette or Amelie) would have a similar effect and remind you of Paris without actually naming her the city's name. Just my opinion. Also, Madelena is very pretty.
no one will realize the significance Paris as a city has for you. everyone will think it's b/c you like Paris Hilton. she's a disaster and i would go out of my way to not name my child anything similar to her name. seriously it's a disaster. it's a shame really b/c the name does have nice meaning for you.
i say go with madelena. though i'll be honest i'm not exactly sure how to pronounce that. mad-a-leena?

I really do like the name Paris, but I would never want anyone to think that Paris Hilton inspired the name of my child - she's so insipid! So, unfortunately, I think I'd have to say .
I don't like Paris as a first name because as everyone else mentioned, Paris Hilton has kind of ruined it. But what about using it as a middle name? I think Madelena Paris is very pretty.
Madelena Paris works for me. Madelena is different without being you-nique.
Using Paris as the first name just seems kind of cruel considering the trainwreak of a human being everyone in North America now associates with that name.
Another option to Paris could be Genevieve, who as you probably know is the patron saint of Paris, which I don't think you have to be Catholic to appreciate.
I would be concerned about Paris Hilton associations, especially since she's not likely to disappear anytime soon. And don't forget that one of Michael Jackson's kids is also named Paris.
Re: My favorite girl name...
I've never heard of Madelena but it's very pretty!
I won't ever get past Paris Hilton to see the beauty of that name

People eff with the name madeline all the time on here with spellings and such and it always looks wrong, trashy and made up.
Madelena sounds beautiful, uncommon and not at all made up. It's the perfect twist on Madelyn, good job!
This.
Everyone will relate her to Paris Hilton, even if you don't.
Love it
Despite the Hilton association, I still see Paris as an elegant name and Madelena is very pretty as well. Great combo
What they both said.
This. How about Madelena Paris.
Or, another very French name to honor your love for Paris. There are so many beautiful French names!

I do, however, enjoy Madelena - very pretty!
paris is the name of one of my cats.
i think madelena is a beautiful name.

I like Madelena but I hate Paris Hilton and even w/o her the name Paris is nms. What about Madelena Paris?
I also like the idea of using a french name instead of Paris to entice your memories of Paris.

But if you love it, go for it!
*pours one out for the sad, sad death of Paris as a boy's name*
Ditto everyone about not using Paris. It's supposed to be a boy's name, and Paris Hilton ruined it entirely for everyone, besides.
Madelena has a pretty sound, but I keep wanting to make it Magdalena, since it's a much more common/familiar variant on the same idea.
