closed fist/not holding toys

When did your LO"s have an open hand more than closed?  Also when did they start holding toys? DS still has a closed fist most of the time and he has only held things for a few seconds.  Is this something I should worry about? He's already rolling over and reaching other milestones just not this one. It's on my list of questions for his 4 month appt.

Re: closed fist/not holding toys

  • DS can hold a rattle and other small toys that I put in his hands, but I'm not entirely sure he is aware of it because he knocks himself on the head a lot....He still always has his fists clenched, too. HTH!!!

  • I'm curious too. DS has NO interest in toys and it's nearly impossible to get him to open up his hands.
  • i dont think this happened until around the end of 3 months/beginning of 4 months when we put her in exersaucer and she started grabbing everything!

  • This only recently started happening with my LO in the past few weeks. ?First he started bringing his hands together, and then he started actually grasping toys for longer than a couple of seconds. ?Just keep trying - it will happen.

I would not worry about it too much.  My DS always has clenched fists and will only hold something for a second or two maybe twice a day if I'm lucky to see it.  He is not even rolling over yet either.  I'd bring it up at your 4 month if you are worried, but babies develop at different paces.
