When are you buying nursing clothes?

I was at motherhood the other day and wanted to try on some nursing tops since I don't know the next time I will be able to get down there. Then I realized that nothing would fit me that I would try on.

I was just wonder when you ladies got or are getting your nursing tops and if you got them before birth, how did you know what size to get and did they fit you afterwards?

i just got one nursing tank for now to wear at the hospital and then i will buy my bras and other tanks once my milk comes in after the baby is born.

This exactly. If nursing doesn't work out I don't want to be stuck with nursing tanks and bras.

I just have a couple of nursing bras to tide me over until I know my size pp. I bought the size that I am now. I am actually using the nursing sleep bras now for some support at night.

I outgrew my regular bras in 3rd tri so I went and bought nursing bras. I know they may not fit in the beginning when my milk first comes in, but they were cheaper than non-nursing bras so I thought why not? Other than that I have a nightgown that can be used for nursing and a nursing tank top that is part of a lounge set. I will wait and see what I need/what size after the baby comes...I don't think now would be a good time to buy them because I don't think trying them on with a belly works very well.....lol

I would wait before buying them. I was back to my prepregnancy size after about 3 weeks, but there are also a lot of women who are months pp and not back to theirs yet. I got a nursing tank from Target in my prepregnancy size and it was stretchy enough that I could wear right away. I also wore maternity tops for the first few weeks.

Shirts like this work great for bfing because you can just pull it to the side:

I didn't buy any nursing shirts. Everyone I've talked to has said to just get tanks you can wear under your shirt or nursing tanks that still keep you covered under a cardigan or something.

This, exactly. I have one nursing bra and two nursing tanks. After I see how big I'm going to be, I'll buy additional nursing bras.

As far as nursing tops, I don't think I'll need much until fall/winter. Not that I dress like a hoochie mama, but in the summer I wear a lot of sleeveless vneck tops/dresses and tank tops anyway. It's pretty easy to pull that strap off your shoulder so baby can nurse. I have about four short sleeved/cap sleeved shrugs/cropped cardigans that I will wear over my tshirt dresses while out in public, to help cover myself so I'm not hanging out. See, I've already thought this all out. Wink

When fall rolls around, I'm sure I'll want to get some official nursing shirts/sweaters. It's cold here and I wear many turtleneck and cowlneck sweaters. I'm thinking I may end up wearing more cardigans, etc.

I am going to miss my winter wardrobe of sweaterdresses + leggings or opaque tights + boots. I have about 5 sweaterdresses that I wear through the winter. They are absolutely impractical for nursing - they have turtlenecks - there would be no way to nurse without completely taking off the dress! Hmm, perhaps some designer has created a nursing sweaterdresss... ::Runs off to shop online for nursing sweaterdresses::

I was always told to get a nursing bra in one size larger than you are now to start with and then go from there after you get settled with baby. I haven't gotten anything yet I have a couple of nursing bras left from DS but they are sort of stained

OH well they will work for now, I might get a nursing tank as well.

I'm probably going to get 1 nursing tank and 2 nursing bras (or visa versa) or those "sleep bras" and then see how it goes before I buy more. I'm just gonna make sure the cups have room to grow but that the band has room to go down if need be too. The tanks I'll just try on from the boobs up and not try to stretch it over my belly!

I'm already a 36G... I'm scared that they are going to get even bigger and then I won't be able to wear anything that I bought. My hospital has a nursing store and they will fit you for bras if you need one.

I've been advised by numerous women to wait until after my milk comes in to buy nursing bras/tanks. I have 1 bra and 1 tank for the hospital, and then I'll just go purchase more when I see what size I am. My breasts haven't really increased in size much during pregnancy... but I know my mom said she was an A cup until after I was born... then they jumped to C's and beyond and never went back. I'm kind of hoping...

I'm going to order two Bravada nursing bras from Target. One in the size I am now, that grows up one band/cup size, and one the next size up (which would last me through 4 band/cup sizes). I figure between those two my boobs should be okay. If they grow more than the second bra, I'm probably going to need a forklift anyway, rather than a bra.?

With them I'm just planning to wear looser shirts that can easily be pulled up or down at the neck, until I know my size. I don't plan to be out and about much the first couple weeks anyway, so unless I have visitors I'll probably just walk around the house in my bra. ?
