Babies: 0 - 3 Months

s/o irritating il's

I have to go see mine next weekend. I have made plans for about every day we are there to be out of the house except for Monday when they said everyone was going to be at there house for a "meet the baby" party.

I know they are going to want to hold DD nonstop because they only saw her the day she was born in the NICU and weren't able to hold her. FIL isn't allowed to hold her because he smokes about 2 packs a day. He has to put on a CLEAN shirt...like just back from the dry cleaners clean and put a blanket over his shirt if he wants to touch her lol. I don't think they realize we're completely serious about this rule though, even when we had the same one with older DD.

I'm sure I'll have to feed the baby a lot to escape the  pointless fishing conversations.

Re: s/o irritating il's

  • This sounds exactly like my visit with my IL last month.  Most of DH's family smokes and I made damn sure they did not hold her if they smelled liek smoke and didn't change their smokey clothes.  I was the *** but what the eff ever.  DD had breathing issues at birth and we are still watching her lungs.  I was not going to put her through that.

  • They already dislike me for "stealing their son from them" so I don't think DH and me being adamant about  our smokers holding baby rule will really alter their opinion about me.

FIL is the only one who smokes and I've told him he is more than welcome to ruin his own health but not mine or my childrens. I also don't let him sit in my car and refuse to ride in his because he will smoke with the windows up and I don't want to smell like an ashtray or have my car smell like one either lol.

  • we are the same!! DH's sister has had some respitory thing for the past week and said she was feeling better, but i want her to wear a mask if she wants to hold CHarlotte tomorrow..she said she feels fine, and laughed it off but i dont think she thinks we are serious!! i have asthma and i sure as heck dont want DD to get it...if she gets something like what she had its bad news!!!      I'd be paranoid. My children will play with vaccinated children only.

LOL  I don't know why but that struck me as so funny!  "Vaccinated children only!"  I love that!   I am seriously going to screen everyone of DD's playmates and make sure they've been vaccinated.  I wonder how I would look asking her friend's parents if they're children have been immunized.  Can you do that without looking like a freak?

  • Seriously! I will request the view all immunization records. It's like asking someone if their dog has had the parvo immunization yet lol.

    ?

I have a friend who refuses to vaccinate. Granted, we are doing the alternative schedule, but I'm wary of that child (who also goes to the gym daycare) to be around mine. The pedi assured me it was most likely fine as everyone else is vaccinated, and that's how they can get away with that choice. The only issue to me is the fact that she goes to the gym daycare- there are no regulations there and anyone can drop off any child at anytime, so you have no information on any illnesses they have. At least at a regular daycare you are informed if someone is sick with something serious!

And also- your ILs sound suuuuper special. I'd tell them you have no problem not letting them hold the baby, thank you very much.?

  • I just got back from a party where I made this woman mad b/c I wouldn't let her touch DS. Everyone else got to touch him after they had Lysol'ed their hands, but this one woman *just* got back from Cancun - as in, swine flu central? As in, the locale that launched the HUGE outbreak at St. John's school in NYC? So I wouldn't let her touch him at all, and she was SUPER p*ssed about it. Well, I'm sorry, but I didn't hear her volunteering to pay the medical bills if he gets really sick. She kept saying how "the media blew it all out of proportion" etc., but he's TWO MONTHS OLD! Better safe than sorry! She's a mom too, she should be more understanding!!
