Babies: 9 - 12 Months

8 months old - rejecting baby food?

DD has been completely UNinterested in her babyfood for a couple of weeks now... pedi said it's no big deal and she may never go back to eating it and skip straight to eating what we eat.  Anyone else dealing with this?  She'll eat oatmeal, puffs, yogurt melts... but wants nothing to do with her purees.

Re: 8 months old - rejecting baby food?

  • I'm realizing DS is starting to get this way. ?I think it has to do with exploring and doing thing independently. ?Spoon feeding is not independent. ?I notice if I give DS a puff in between a few bites that he can pick up and put in his mouth himself it keeps him happy longer and keeps him opening his mouth for me. ?I have a feeling we'll be having to start more table foods, but he's just learning how to chew (we just started giving puffs like three days ago because he just started almost crawling).?

So maybe try that.. they say kids when they start crawling are very into exploring and doing things them self and sometimes are not into eating and sometimes refuse spoon feeding altogether. ?GL!?

  • DS doesn't like as many purees any more either. He likes ones with fruit, applesauce and stuff like that. But most veggies are a bigtime fail. He'll eat little bits of green beans but not green bean puree. I think he's just outgrowing them.

  • When dd started this, I just kept trying everything. Eventually she would eat finger foods & what we were eating. Now we have to give her both at every solid meal. So I incorporate purees and either finger foods or what we're eating.?

Last night she had puree & french fries. She could hold the fry & suck on it, gum it, etc and she'd open her mouth for the puree. ?

  • DS completely rejected baby food at 8 months. I think it's pretty common. He eats mostly table food now except he still eats oatmeal cereal and yogurt for breakfast (which he's always loved).  We try to do mostly organic and I try to be careful about sodium, etc. Aside from that, I ususally just chop up whatever we're eating and he does fine now feeding himself. GL!
  • DD rejected purees at 9 months. She just wants to do it herself. Smile

She's on all table food now, but she'll share yogurt with me (lets me feed it to her) while she has her waffles and peaches for breakfast.
