I am going to post this on the 24month+ board too, but wanted an opinion here. DD is potty training and it is going really well after a failed attempt in late Jan/Feb. Problem is that she has complained about her butt hurting several times. I get her home and realize that they are not wiping her well (or at all?). Yesterday after they came in from the playground, they lined up to use the potty, peed, and didn't wash their hands. What policies do your daycare centers have about potty training including hand washing, wiping, etc?
I am really annoyed with the 2 year old room. The Maryland ratios go up to 1 teacher to 6 kids and I feel that it is too many at that age. The care seems to have declined (she has been bitten 3 times in that room by a known serial biter) and I am wondering if I should look for a new daycare. I love the idea of a center especially because they have activities (music, soccer, water play) and have a simple pre-school curriculum, but there are a few issues we haven't had until this point.
Re: Daycare and the potty
They are not following the health codes and would be charged violations if an inspector saw that.
My DD's school is extremely strict with rules including hygiene. When I go in to pick her at the end of the day, very often, a child is coming out of the potty and walks right to the sick to wash his/her hands. And if they don't go the second they get out, the teacher reminds them.
Her school completely potty trained her (I can take no credit;) and when they are training them, the teacher sits in there with them. I've walked in a few times and can see the teacher in the potty room wiping them. But as they get older they do let them wipe after peeing. I think with #2, they may get help but not sure. My DD comes home clean though either way.
I would bring up your concerns to the Director. If they are a good Director, they will address the situation right away.
