3rd Trimester

post labor bleeding questions for those who know...

ok, sorry my post is a little tmi for some maybe, but I lurk on here and haven't really written in months.  I am starting to have all these nervous questions and fears and need help from those who know!

1. how long did the bleeding last?

2, is there a specific pad that you recommend that is better (i have honestly NEVER worn a pad!)

3. is it ok to wear spanx right after to try and get my stomach to go back?

  • I can't answer you on the spanx cause I don't know what it is - but the bleeding..it'll last for a few weeks, but won't be too heavy (at least mine wasn't) after about a week or so. It kinda ends up like a heavy period.

Pads?? They give you more like what looks to be a diaper! Then after a couple days you can move to giant pads..but I couldn't tell you want kind to buy!

Isn't it great what we get to look forward too! LOL

  • I had a c-section with DS so I don't know if it's different with a vag delivery. My bleeding lasted almost two weeks. For the first week I used the walmart brand overnight pad. The next week I used the walmart brand super pads. Except for when I was 11 this was the only time in my life I have worn a pad so I don't know about other brands. I put on a spandex gurdle a few days after DS was born. I don't know if it made my stomach shrink any faster but my doctor suggessted it to support my incision. I wore it constantly (including to bed) for the first two or three weeks.

  • You would really wear spanx just to make your stomach go back to normal faster? That seems a little outrageous to me.
  • Im bored so I will answer what I know:)

Im 3 weeks pp and stopped bleeding a few days ago, Ive been using Kotex maxi pads in super!! I still have some discharge everyday but Im not bleeding or anything anymore, but still using the pads just in case!

I havent used anything for my stomache, it pretty much went back to normal on its own, Ive lost 40lbs since having DD and I dont know if I use anything that it will make a difference...

    HTH:)

  • I think the average amt of time for bleeding is 40 days. Only heavy for a week or two.

I know that you can wear the belly bandit, which is really tight on your abdomen so I'm sure the Spanx will be fine.

  • Good questions. I didn't know that you bleed so much afterwards (or at all) until I started reading while pregnant.  It's amazing how much other ppl DON"T tell you about...but they are fine with telling you labor and deliver horror stories.
  • 1. how long did the bleeding last? I don't remember exactly how long, a few weeks at least.

2, is there a specific pad that you recommend that is better (i have honestly NEVER worn a pad!)  I just bought some overnight pads (Kotex I think?) for the first few days and then went down to Always regular pads..with wings!

    3. is it ok to wear spanx right after to try and get my stomach to go back? I started wearing my spanx right away...I was not a fan of the muffin top.

Wearing a "girdle" is actually suggested to help the uterus go back to normal.  Like I said, it also helped with the muffin top I had with all my pants, but DS was a November baby so I was in pants a lot.  I wore my Bella Band a lot too.

I bled enough to wear a pad for I think two weeks, and then I wore a liner for another week or so. It really wasn't that bad. I wore the hospital pads - they are like pillows - for the first few days, and then switched to Always with wings regular.

The hospital pads and the disposable underwear they give you are awesome. I actually felt better sitting on them (they really are like a pillow), but it did feel nice to go back to my regular pads.

I didn't wear Spanx right after because I didn't think it would matter. I think just doing exercises will help you tone up.

My BEST advice as far as the bleeding goes - take home the squirt bottle you will get at the hospital. I loved that thing. It made me feel so nice and clean, and it eased the tenderness in that area. I would fill it with warm water while I went to the bathroom, and then I would squirt it to clean myself off. It really felt great to wash everything off and clean up the stitches, and it definitely soothed any pain I had.

They also gave me a sitz bath, which did made me feel better. Once I was home from the hospital I just got in the bathtub though. I'd rather soak my whole body.

    It's really not so bad.

Same here. I couldn't have done any type of Spanks. For me, any preasure on my abdomen for the first 10 days or so was uncomfortable. I also had a 3rd degree tear and used Tucks pads and hemroid cream (to numb the sutures) on my pad. Sorry if it TMI but I wish I would have known how uncomforable a natural recovery could be.

  • 1. Everyone is totally different as far as how long..I bled for the entire six weeks!

     2. I just used regular Kotex, and then eventually after about a month of those I just used regular panti-liners.

    3. As far as your stomach goes I used this awesome lotion from Dove, it's a tightening cream, I used that until like 4 months afterwards (mainly b/c I loved the smell!)

  • I bled for SIX weeks with my daughter. It was heavy for the first two weeks. Heavy again at the end (I guess my 1st period?).

Spanx weren't around when I had her almost 5 years ago. I don't think I'd wear spanx. I'd get a pregnancy girdle/belly bandit thing though. I remember the pressure of jeans on my vagina was bad enough without adding spanx to the mix. Then again, I had a really really bad tear and cried everytime I peed for over a week.

I bought always maxi pads with wings (the purple bag). They are pretty huge, but I'm sure Ill need them.

  • I only bled for about a week and a half with DD. The first few days were heavy and then it slowed way down. I was actually surprised that it didn't last longer ( hope I didn't jinx myself for this time!!)

I took a ton of hospital pads home with me and the mesh underwear they give you. They worked the best, but the pad is more like a diaper and goes from your belly button to the crack of your ass it seems!! If you don't use the hospital ones, I would go with a long heavy/overnight pad.

As far a spanx, no clue. Never thought of it. I don't think I would wear them though. I had way to much going on with a newborn to even think about my stomach!

  • Tomorrow will be one week PP for me and the bleeding has been pretty much gone for a few days.  I bled a ton after I had her so maybe that is why.  With my first 2 kids I think I bled for about a week or 2 as well.  I am still wearing pads just in case because I remember with one of my other kids I had no bleeding for a few days then all of a sudden I had heavier bleeding for a day or so.

I used the hospital pads for the first 2 days.  Then I have been using the always overnight ultra thin with wings.  Have no had any accidents with them so they have worked well for me.  I am not a fan of big bulky pads at all.  I could have been good without the overnights but I wasn't sure when I bought them so I will use them until they are gone.

I never used anything on my stomach with my first 2.  With my oldest I was back in my old clothes when I came home from the hospital.  Only took a few weeks for the little bit of pooch I had to go away.  I ordered a PP suport this time, just has not made it here yet.  I mostly want it for when my husband gets home for 2 weeks in July so I feel better when we are out since we will be traveling some and taking tons of pictures since it will be when he meets her for the first time.
