Bear. In elementary school my brother played hockey against a guy named Bear (I'm sure it was NN) and I always liked the sound of it. DH and I are thinking of using it as a NN if we have a son since he'll be the 5th. I want to carry on the family name (actually, I don't want to be the b*tch that stops it) but I don't really like it. Bear makes for a good NN and if he hates it we can stop using it later.
But all in all, any name I like I'll consider even if others don't like it. No offense to you guys, I love you all and really do value your opinions, but I will only take them with a grain of salt and not make it the final say in my baby's name.
I like January too. I knew a January in high school and she wore it well. I still don't think I'd use it.
I also like the name Briony/Bryony from the book Atonement. It's a bit out there, but we still might use it for a girl anyway. Other unusual girls names I like are Mardi and Timbre, but would never use either.
I love Bronwyn, but DH vetoed it right away. I'm secretly glad he did, because I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to give my child that name. Turns out, we're having a boy, so it doesn't really matter anyway.
I secretly love this name too...and a slew of old people names like Hazel and Flora and Mable and Theo and Leroy...Dh says if I were in charge, our nursery would be a nursing home with smaller diapers...
I know a Hill and have honestly met about 4 Matteo's in the past month, all babies, and Grover is a family name in my family. I also think many of the names you like - Pippa, Poppy, Milo, Clementine - are more common in the UK so I am surprised they would be unusual in Australia!

I love those names...ok, not Leroy, but I'm a huge fan of classic names. One I love that I couldn't use is Hester. DH vetoed that right away. But we agreed on Gretchen Ruth and Theodore Thomas for our next kid. And then of course, our daughter's name is Edith Joan, so I already went there.

Nice name choices. They are different, but not weird at all. Edith Joan is very pretty!?

Wow - my son's name is Theodore Thomas!
I'm biased, but great name. We call him Teddy. We get lots of compliments on his name and I like that it's not that common.
Re: any unusual names you love....
I loved Winter before Nicole Ritchie used it.
I loved Acadia before it was a car.
I love January but I think it's too out there.
Lets see... I had a BUNCH that nobody liked in my family... Here is a couple...

I know a girl named January. I thought it was kind of out there when I first met her, but she is adorable and fun, so now I think it works.

My grandma's voiced caller ID pronounces my uncle Keven (Kevin), Keevin.
Mabel... and I'd use it to, if I didn't know my mother would break something if I did (it was her middle name before she changed it)
Carlin/Carlyn... I did so love the man, and I cried when he died. Unfortunately hubby doesn't buy it. I'm lobbying heavily for it as a middle name.
Badger - pretty obvious why I can't use it, no? But I think it's a cool name.
Grover - I *might* have the guts to do it, but DH gave it a HUGE veto.
Scout - for a girl.
