NBR - guess how much I spend on coffee each month?

I go to Starbucks a lot.  I will sometimes swing by Kwik Trip in the mornings to get coffee, but then have to get a donut or what not along with it.  I've been going over what I spend each month on those things and the past two months I've average $100 a month of freakin coffee!

I need to start making my own in the morning.

Isn't crazy when you realize that!!!! Every money article I've read about how to save/cut back always lists cutting out the coffee habit!

  • Wow! I've added mine up before too and now we just set the coffee pot to auto and wake up to fresh coffee at 7a. I do splurge a couple times a month

  • Yeah, I spend about that much too. It's crazy. I just cut down my work schedule to 3 days per week. I told mh I would only go to starbucks on the days I work. I will be dusting off my coffee maker for the rest of the week.
  • When I was working I used to spend a ton on coffee. I realized the reason I didn't take my own was b/c I would forget my travel mug at work or forget to wash it. I went to a food supply store and bought a huge pack of disposable travel coffee cups. They were pretty cheap & recyclable too.

Embarrassed  I'm guilty of the same....

it's depressing.  WTF is wrong with me?  Just make my own damn latte in the morning!!

  • I make my own in the morning and then still go through Dunkin Donuts to get one for work. I then on most days will go out and get one in the middle of the day...so I would say I spend about 4$ a day on coffee! Not including the bags we buy to make at home! Thanks for pointing this out :)
  • OMG I would have a stroke if I found out I spent that much on coffee!  And I drink a crapload of it!  I thought buying a $9 tub of Folger's Colombian 3x per month was getting pricey.

I have an electric percolator that I set up the night before and in the morning I plug it in before I get in the shower.  After it brews it automatically switches to the Warm setting instead of burning.  I love it b/c it's super easy to clean; all the bits can go in the dishwasher or you can put powdered dishwashing detergent in the basket and run it, and the coffee is so much better than in a drip coffeemaker - AND better than Starbucks IMO (Starbucks always tastes either burnt or too milky for me).  My friend is a coffee snob and was all "OOOOOOH, what kind of coffee is this???  You MUST tell me!"  You should have seen her face when I told her it was just Folgers. Big Smile

  • Between my dh and I we were spending $200/month(sick I know!). ?I now make a pot of coffee for myself in the morn. and I make him a espresso for his morning wake-up. ?He picks up another chai in the afternoon but that has been a huge cost-savings for us. ?I do have my frap treat every once in awhile though!
  • We got a keuireg and its super easy, quick, and much cheaper (yea its more expensive than making a pot, but also much cheaper than Starbucks!)  DH turns it on when he goes and gets a bottle first thing in the am so it only takes a min to make later on.  We also buy the bold coffee (cheap at Costco) and fill a travel mug (2 reg size cups) with it.  Plus no clean up!
