Toddlers: 24 Months+

if you have two around 2 years apart...

Could you please tell me what you did about the stroller, carseat, double stroller issue?

I am hesatant to buy a whole new double travel system w/ the infant carrier and all that jazz. DS only staied in his infant carrier for 6 months. Where are we going to go for the first 6 months w/ 2 babies!? I doubt very many places. Was that the case for you?

Do I just wait and see how it goes after the new baby gets here? Do I sling the new baby and push DS  in his stroller? Do I get a new infant carier (i hate the one we  have) or do I just get a convertable carseat that will last forever?

I just don't  know what to do!!!

Re: if you have two around 2 years apart...

  • my dc are 19 1/2 months apart.  dd was in her convertible carseat already. I moved it behind the driver's side and put our infant seat behind the passenger seat (it had to go there so dh could drive). Personally, I'd just use the infant carrier you have. I would have liked a new one for ds as well... one that would last for a longer length (ours' length limit was only 26in)... but he was only in it snapped into the stroller for so long.  for ds's first 8 or 9 months, I carried him.  either in a hotsling or bjorn with dd in the stroller... or if we were going some place like the library or someplace dd would want to walk, I snapped him into the peg single and she walked and "helped push" the stroller.  for walks (we walk a dog) I'd put him in either carrier and her in the single jogger  and go to town.  when he was about 8 or 9 months old, I got a P& T sport with doubles seat. I wish I had gotten this when I had dd. It's a single and a double and works like a dream as a outdoor walking stroller and for shopping and whatnot.   I picked it b/c I do more walking outside than just shopping.  If I didn't walk a lot, I may have leaned towards a joovy caboose.  But really, dd still likes to kick back in the stroller and relax.  so the P&T has been awesome for us.

I say wait and see what you need.  but people are swarming over some big deal on the P&T at costco (I think).

  • Thank you. I think I'm leaving toward using the sling more than the infant carrier while we are out. I doubt I will be going many places w/o DH who can push DS while I carry the new baby.

I'm also thinking about just going ahead a getting the convertable carseat and putting the infant carrier in the back of my truck to use in grocery stores and restaurants...

  • Mine are a bit further apart (almost 3 yrs) but we got a sit and stand stroller we can put the infant seat on it or baby can ride in the seat there and ds #1 loves that he can sit or stand on the back part of it and it does have straps to strap him in when he is sitting

  • DD and DS are 27 months apart.

I really think the stroller issue depends on the kid.  DD loved to ride in the stroller (prefered it to walking at most places) so the double stroller made a lot of sense for us.  I'm a SAHM so it was great to have it for trips around town by myself.  We have gotten a LOT of use out of it, and we will certainly use it with DS and baby #3.

However, I know a lot of people that just used a single and a sling or had their 2 year old walk with them.  I was hesitant to have the sling as my only option b/c I didn't want to wake DS taking him from the infant carrier.  I also knew DD wouldn't walk for too long.

If this is your last child, I'd say just buy a new convertable car seat.  If you plan to have more, I'd buy a new infant carrier.

    Good luck with your decision!

  • Mine are 2 years apart. We re-used the infant carrier for Natalie and it should be OK until she is at least 1 since it goes to 30 lbs and she is only 15 lbs at 7 months. We have the travel system stroller that goes with that. We also got a double stroller for $25 on Craigslist that we use occassionally. Like you, I didn't think we would use it enough to shell out a lot of $ for one and I was right. I did make sure to get one that could hold an infant carrier. I also sometimes would put her in the Bjorn or sling and Nathan in the regualr stroller when we went for walks because it was just easier and she got to the point where she didn't want to be in her carrier but was too little to sit in the stroller on her own. I also got a smaller umbrella-type stroller so if DH and I wanted to each push one of them separately and not lug the big double stroller somewhere we could do that too.

We basically take the double stroller to the park, the mall, etc.

My girls are 21 months apart and trust me, we didn't jsut sit home - you can't do that and the baby will learn to adapt really well.  We have a Graco double stroller that is huge and bulky and I hate but we used it a ton when my younger DD was little.  Her infant seat fit on it and my older DD sat in the front and it was great.  As soon as my younger DD was able, we put both girls in umbrella strollers that are way easier to use but we still use the double for things where I want the basket.  I moved my younger DD out of the infant carrier at 5 months due to her reflux (she did really bad in it and the doc recommended it and it helped).  I found it was hard to deal with my older DD and the infant seat and just easier to carry my younger DD most of the time.  The sling is a wonderful idea and you will use it a ton.

  • oh and I have to say, it was easier to get around with dc before ds started walking... now, if I let them walk, I attempt to have them hold hands and we all walk together... dd likes to help.... but we go to a playground and they are in opposite directions.. I've had many heart attacks since ds is now running like a mad person. lol.

I had dd in a MMO program twice a week, we would go to the library or indoor play area of the mall, playgroup. since we' moved last summer, we don't get out as much. but I'm working more.

  • Mine are 22 mos. apart, so just about 2 years.  We got a double stroller (the Indie Twin) because we are very active and are constantly out and about.  Ds is 4 mos. old and we are always out with the two of them.  I would get a stroller because you don't know how big your second one will be. My ds is huge and I rarely have him in the carrier and he's way to heavy for the sling. We used dd's old carseat since she moved to a Britax when she was 1 year old. Honestly, there is no way I could do it without my double. You don't need a travel system. My Indie Twin has a bar that will take the carrier---it just fits right in.  When my ds turns 1 we will probably just get another Britax carseat for him.
  • 17 months here:

?We got a used double Graco off craigslist. ?Used it maybe 10 times. ?We use our sit and stand ALL THE TIME. ?In the beginning it was easier to use our umbrella stroller and wear the infant in the moby or Bjorn so I could have my hands free to deal with the toddler.

Now we use a wagon for things like the zoo, sit and stand to get back and forth to the park and to go to the mall.

If you want a double just look for one that will snap in your existing infant car seat. ?

I do recommend using your old infant carrier instead of starting out in a convertible. ?It's just nicer to be able to carry the sleeping baby to and from the car without waking him or her up.

If you got rid of it I'd get another one. ?Maybe used?

And yes - I'd wait until the baby gets here and see where the toddler's disposition is. ?Dylan was not the type to spend more than a few minutes in a stroller until he was saying "out, out out out". ?Your toddler may be better about it.

Jace was great at being worn. ?Your new baby may not be a fan.

    Every kid is different!?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
