Thoughts on the name Noelle Christmas baby

If we have a girl I relaly quite like the name Noelle for a middle name.

Possibly Elizabeth Noelle. But I think names like Noel and Noelle should be used only if you have a Christmas baby.

So my question is, what constitues a "Christmas" baby in your mind?

Born on Christmas day? Born in December? Born during the "12 days of Christmas"? Something else?

Thoughts?

Thanks?

Re: Thoughts on the name Noelle Christmas baby

  • I look at the Christmas season as the day after Thanksgiving to the day of Christmas.  There is so much cheer, and it is just a time to give to other people that are special in your life.

My grandmother's maiden name was Noel.  Some of her family was from France.  So the name Noelle as a middle name is a way to honor my family and have the element of the Christmas season (I would want my daughter to feel like she is special having a birthday in December, but I want her to have her own identity--there are 11 other months).

And I have a cousin who had a daughter on Christmas Day.  Her name is Lilly Noelle.

  • Thanks for that. Our baby is due January 15th...if it's a girl, I was hoping we might squeak into the "Christmas baby" category but I really don't think we do.

I tend to think of Christmas from December through to Jan 5th (12 days of Christmas)

I'm pretty sure it's wrong to hope my baby is early so that it meets some mad naming criteria of mine. :-)?

The Christmas season to me is the day after T-giving till Christmas day. Noelle is a beautiful name. I don't think it is strange to use it if you have a January baby. People will assume she's a December baby, but it's really not a big deal at all since it's a middle name. Elizabeth Noelle is GORGEOUS! I really love it!!

I've never heard of the 12 days of Christmas after Christmas. I've always known it to be the 12 days before Christmas. My MIL gives us a gift each day of the 12 days of Christmas and the last day is Christmas day.?

Edit: I googled it and I didn't know that some celebrate it through Jan 5 like you do. That's really interesting! Learn something new everyday. ?

  • Yeah we leave our Christmas tree up until Jan 5th. My parents are English, maybe it's a Christmas thing?

  • I don't think it matters when she's born, particularly since it's a middle name
  • I think of the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving to the 25th of December.

Noelle is beautiful, I considered it for our May baby!!  But, couldn't get past feeling weird about naming her a Christmas name so we nixed it.

  • I don't know anyone named Noelle who was actually born on Christmas. My name, Natalie, also means born on Christmas (and the Italian word for Christmas is Natale, so almost as similar as Noelle in that sense), and I was born in March.

I don't know any Natalies or Noelles born at Christmas, nor do I know any Aprils who were actually born in the month of April. :)

    It's a pretty name.

    1. Epiphany is Jan 6, so some people celebrate the Christmas season until then.

    2.  Why on earth would your baby have to be born at Christmas to be named Noelle?

  • I went to school w/ a girl named Noelle and she was born on Christmas Eve
  • Huh?  This post is seriously leaving me speechless. If you like the name, use it.  Quite honestly, I dont' see Noelle (esp that spelling) as a "Christmas" name.

Never in a million years would I let the time of year my child is born affect the name I choose.

  • I think Noelle is a beautiful middle name!  One of the prettiest names I've ever heard was Christina Noelle.  It just goes together well.

My name is Holly and I'm always asked if I'm a Christmas baby.  I just tell them no, and we move on.  Not a biggie!

I think it is a pretty middle name and why does it matter if the baby is born in December? My friend's name is Noel and she was born in March. If you like the name, use it. I think of X-Mas as day after Thanksgiving through New Year's.
  • Duplicate post.  Sorry.

  • My niece's MN is Noelle, but she was born in August.  My sister's pregnancy was threatened at first (thought it was a tubal preg), but they found out right around Christmas time that baby had moved down and everything was OK.  So she's their Christmas miracle, and used Noelle as a MN.  I love it.  I don't think it matters when you're born.  Use it anyway.

Side note: I grew up with a set of twins born on Christmas day... Angel and Noel.  Mom was a little mentally handicapped, but I still think it was a cute idea.

This.  It's a very pretty name. Using it in just December is really silly to me.  I don't look at the name Noelle and automatically think Christmas baby. I just think of it as a nice name.
  • I am due December 10th and I plan on using this as a middle name if this baby is a girl . In my opinion I would only use it if she is born in December though.
  • My b-day is 12/1 and my middle name is Noel. I would say a "Christmas Baby" is a baby born in December.

I agree with this too!! I know a few people with the first name Noelle and they were not born around Christmas.

  • I think Noelle would be fine no matter when she's born.

As a side not though, I would think Christmas season starts in early December and goes on to Jan 6th.

  • I would never think Noelle is only for a Christmas baby.

I think of a Christmas baby as being born around Christmas- Dec 1-Jan 10 are Christmas babies, IMO.

I am aiming for a Christmas baby next year ;) We shall see.

  • i think it's fine since you're using it as a middle name. even if you weren't i'd say go for it. my aunt is born on christmas and her name is holly..... seriously.

  • I went to school with a Noelle and it never occured to me that her birthday had anything to do with the Christmas season, so I say use it if you love it nomatter when your baby arrives
  • I think any time during the Christmas Season, from the day after Thanksgiving to the 7 days after Christmas.  I love Noelle, and you could call her Elle or Ell for short.
  • I don't think of Noelle as a "Christmas" name. If you like it, you should use it.
  • A good friend was born Jan 16 and her middle name is Noelle. And a former co-worker was named Noelle, but her bday was in September.

I also knew a man named Noel (pronounced Nole). Not sure when his bday was though.

  • I love the name Noelle. I remember saying I'd feel funny naming my daughter Noelle unless she was born during the Christmas "season." Like, at least in the winter. DH thought I was crazy though. He thinks it's fine any time of year. I think like it from Nov-Jan.births.

  • I would totally use Noelle as a girl name if I ever have a Christmas baby.

But I consider Christmas baby to be Christmas day or Christmas Eve.

  • I think Noel is fine for any time of the year.

As far as "Christmas baby"... Christmas celebrations don't really end until January 6th (I believe Jesus' baptism).  Christmas starts after Thanksgiving, for me, too.

  • If you like Noelle, then use it! It doesn't matter when your DD is born.

FWIW, we used Noelle as our DD's middle name and she was born at the end of July. To me, it doesn't really matter... especially since you are using it as a middle name.

  • I think Elizabeth Noelle is very pretty and disagree that you have to have a Christmas baby to use it.
