s/o MIL -- she ALWAYS thinks she knows better than I do

Drives me crazy. She rarely comes to see DS (she has only seen him 3 times despite living 20 minutes away)... but when she does she thinks she knows exactly what he wants & acts like I don't know my own child.

Like she'll be rocking him & he'll start crying. So I'll tell her he doesn't like to be held like that -- and she'll flat-out ignore me & keep rocking him (meanwhile he's getting more & more upset).

If DS is ever calm for her she'll say something like, "It must be nice for you to have someone keep him happy for a few minutes." Ummmm.... he's a really good baby -- he's pretty content most of the time. I certainly don't just have him screaming all day because I'm an incompetent mother.

Sigh.... I almost feel bad because on one hand I'm upset that she doesn't make more of an effort to see him... but on the other hand, I don't really like her coming over.

  • my dad is like this.  ANNOYING - and also makes snide comments about me going back to work.

  • I kinda have some of the same issues with my MIL.

When DS was really colicky we told her that he didn't like to sit down and be held. Of course, she'd sit down with him and let him scream. ugh...My DH would take him and he'd stop.

My mom thinks that my MIL has forgotten what it is like to have a new baby in the house.
