Anyone else's LO cry during bedtime routine?

Here is my 4 month old's bedtime routine:

DH reads him 2 books while I get his bath ready.  Then he takes a 10-15 minute bath (which he loves!).  After his bath, we dry him off, lotion, and change him into his PJs (the crying starts here).  My DH reads him another book while I get his bottle ready.  I swaddle him and take him into his room to rock him while he drinks his last bottle of the night.  From the time he gets out of the tub, until he starts drinking the bottle, he cries...anyone else's LO do this?  I feel horrible, but I dont know what to change...

He acts like he hates his swaddle, but he won't sleep without it.

  • Maybe he is overtired and you may need to start the routiine earlier.

  • it seems pretty obvious he is hungry. just have his bottle ready right after the bath, don't do another book.

we stopped the swaddle cold-turkey, and grant fussed for a bit but then fell asleep on his own.  you might give it a chance, he seems MUCH happier without the swaddle!

  • too much bedtime pre-show, not enough bed!  Cut out the two books, 15 minute bath, get him the bottle and into bed - or move things back 20 minutes so you have time for all that.

Ditto this!!  DD does the same thing... she cries/screams  while putting it on, then like 5min later she's out cold!

  • Give him the bottle right after the bath. Read the book while you are feeding him if you really want to include that extra book.

DS gets very tired after his baths. After baths, we dry off and get dressed and he eats immediately. There have been times when he's fallen asleep in his towel because he needs to eat right away.

DS used to do this.  We now get him dressed for bed, give him his bottle, then read to him.  Story time is important and so is a bedtime routine.  But even when DS isn'tsuper hungry, he still cries for the bottle after gwetting dressed.  I think it's b/c he knows it's there and wants to cut to the chase.  But then he is still awake after the bottle (like it has recharged him), so we read to him then. If he happens to fall asleep on the bottle, we'll skip storytime.

  • Is he cold getting out of the tub? That is what made my LO cry. If he is crying, I would skip the books and head straight to bedtime.

DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
  • Start the routine a little earlier and have the bottle ready for him when he gets out of the bath.
