3rd Trimester

Preeclampsia and bed rest

Last week I had to spend several days in the hospital. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia but, luckily, they let me go home. (they were considering keeping me until I delivered) So now I'm on strict bed rest and I have to take my blood pressure 4 times a day. If it goes above a certain number I have to be hospitalized again, but so far so good. I had a doc appt today and was told that they are going to induce me sometime in the next two weeks. I don't have a date yet, my doc is hoping that the baby will drop some more and my cervix will soften. Otherwise, I'm told, they may have to do a c-section. So much for staying relaxed!

Re: Preeclampsia and bed rest

  • Good luck with everything! My bp was charting a little high recently, so I'm going in for weekly checks. It's definitely something that is very scary, but thank goodness you are taking the right procautions and are getting taken care of!

  • Just wanted to say good luck and I think it's awesome that you have made it to 36 weeks before all of this set it. :) Feel free to hop on over to the high risk boards if you have any questions. There is a Bedrest Mama's check-in, and a few of us are dealing with pre-e and high BPs at the moment too. I have been told I will be induced at 36 weeks, which I'm not too happy about, but my labs have been good so I am crossing my fingers for 37. My cervix was looking very uncooperative when I had an internal this weekend, which I'd normally be happy about at 34 weeks, but the possibility of a c-section is looming for me as well. It is hard to relax but just sit back and think about that baby you are keeping healthy and how you will be holding your LO before you know it!!

  • This just happened to me as well...I went in for my 2 week check last Friday and had a high blood pressure reading for the first time.  I was told to go home and have a "very restful weekend" and then to come back on Monday morning for another blood pressure check to see what course we were going to take.

Went to the appoinment today, blood pressure went down after my restful weekend but was still high so I was told that I am no longer allowed to work and have to go in twice a week to have my blood pressure checked and to have my placenta observed on the contraction monitor.  As of right now my Dr thinks we will be fine with close monitoring and we haven't talked about any type of official induction I just have to take it easy and hopefully by my LO as much time in the womb as possible.

Definetly not the outcome I was expecting at the end of my pregnancy but its comforting to know that there are others in the same situation.  Good Luck to you guys I hope your LO's get to cook as long as possible!

  • I have been battling higher BP for the past month or so, and too have to monitor it at home.  So far I am not officially on bed rest, however part of that is because I told my Dr that to be on actual Bed Rest would probably drive my BP even higher because I'd go crazy.  I do have to spend as much time as possible sitting down with my feet up.  And a new addition is that starting this week I have to go in twice a week for a NST test.  It is hard not to be concerned....
