I think it's probably ONE feature that looks like someone. My nephew had his dad's pig nose. (it's a very cute pig nose, but very distinct) We decided he would probably look like his Dad. 4 months later YUP. Spitting image.
hmmm, I'd usually agree with this but my friend just had a baby last month and with every picture she sends the little baby girl looks JUST like her dad. But normally yes, I agree. I think there are rare circumstances - like if the baby has distinct features of one parent or the other.
It was just hilarious when my friend had her baby how everyone was gushing, oh so and so looks just like his dad! Christykell, don't you see how they look exactly alike?!?!
Nope. For all I know that could be my kid. Or your kid. Or the mailman's kid.
Agreed. And very rarely is a newborn even that cute. In fact, I'm one of those people who doesn't believe ALL babies are cute. Yes. I went there. Shun me if you must....but I've seen some ugly babies in my day.

I think most newborns aren't even cute. All squished and funny looking, they don't start to get cute for a month or so
ITA. In fact, this is probably totally flameworthy, but I'll go one further. In the delivery room I have ZERO DESIRE to hold my baby all covered in goo. Wipe that kid down first real quick, then you can go ahead and hand him to me.

Ditto.....on a rare occasion you will get a newborn who is just cute off the bat, but most of them have to grow into their "cuteness" and start looking like their parents.

They look like newborns! IMO, when people look at babies age 0-3 months and squeal, "OOOOh, he looks just like his dad" I think they're full of shiit.
Maybe I'm just not very observant to detail.
Haha...I agree!! I have even heard people spouting out features while the baby is still in the hospital. IMO, babies get cuter as the days go on..at first they just look all squished and wrinkled.

Agreed again! I see a Baby Story and they always take the baby straight from the vag and plop in on moms chest. Sorry, but I'm with you. Hose him/her down first...I want my first baby/mommy moment to be as goo free as possible

i used to say this and my mom would say "you'll change your mind" and i actually know people who have insisted on having the baby bathed before holding it. i would be pisssed if my mom had pictures of me with that shilt all over me. i would not do that to my child. and yeah, i will be brushing my hair before anyone is allowed to photograph me.

We'll get a baby at work every so often that everyone agrees looks "funny," like he/she may have a syndrome. (Lots of syndromes have distinct facial features.) Then, in walk the parents - funny looks explained.
I have to disagree, ladies, at least a little bit.
I've seen some newborns whose features clearly resembled their parents', and I've even seen a picture of an almost term fetus who had the same shaped forehead and cheekbones as his older brother. I got to see both babies minutes after birth, and they looked a whole lot alike, and even made the same facial expressions. I am usually pretty observant, though, so maybe that's why I see these things.
All that being said, there are definately some unlovely newborns out there, and I'll probably end up with one of those red-faced goo-covered babies that looks like a baby and nothing else!

I've seen some pics of the new mom holding her hours-old baby in the hospital, or pics of the baby a week after birth and I can very much see the resemblance in the baby's face.
I think that most newborns do look like their parents. It's just that sometimes you can't quite put your finger on what makes them look so alike (e.g. nose or eye shape).

I agree.I got dirty looks when I refused to say a co workers granddaughter was cute. So now I no longer get the pictures passed to me. WooHoo! lol
Lapband wife wanting a baby since 2008.
162lbs lost...30 more to go.
Eh, depends. My niece who was just born 2 weeks ago definitely has features of her dad's. His ears, and nose / chin area are all her Dad's. Very obvious.

This is cracking me up. I used to say both of these things ... until I had my son. He was the most beautiful baby I've ever seen in my life (and still is) so it will not take a month or six months until you start thinking your baby is beautiful.
I told the nurses I absolutely did not want them putting him on my chest until after he was completely cleaned off. Seconds before he came out I told them that I changed my mind and I wanted him right away. They just smiled and nodded. He was all slimy - and he was still completely perfect.
Oh - I also used to think that all babies looked alike and now I think they're all so unique and different -- and usually seem to resemble one parent over the other!
Re: Newborns don't look like anyone
agreed. they look pink & wrinkly...like all of the other newborns lol.

I think that's the case for most newborns.
But one of my friends gave birth to a little girl that looked exactly like the daddy. I mean, exactly. It was pretty cute and funny.
