Well, I would argue that not all kids go through a hitting phase. DD is 3 and has never gone through a hitting phase nor has she been a biter. Having said that, I recognize that's it never too late for her to start this so......
Anyway, it does not seem typical for a kid to be hitting across the face while saying "you're bad." Kids that have hitting phases don't hit like that. Did the mother say anything?
That's not typical behavior. Yes kids may hit, but not usually across the face and then say "bad girl/boy". So obviously his mother/father must do that to that child and that child is just mimicking the behavior.
I hate to see kids hit. DD gets timeouts everytime she hits. Last night she hit her cousin up the side of the head with a sippy cup. Cut her head open and everything. No stitches were needed. She only acts like this when she is around the other cousins.
well that's what almost caused the mom-riot. No one knew where she was at first, so other mothers were forced to stop her DD from hitting. She was literally going from one child to the next. When she finally did appear, she just grabbed her daughter and left, never said anything . . . it was sad, because although DS has gone through quite a hitting stage, it was never like that. Just makes me sad to think of the home situation.
That makes me very sad. DS has a thing with hitting but it's mostly directed towards me and it's only when he doesn't get his way. My friend thinks that maybe he directs it towards me because he feels safe in that I'm not going to hit him back. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
Re: Ok, so I know all kids go through a hitting phase BUT
monkey see, monkey do - that's sad.
