Here is my birth story if anyone wants to read...if not there are pics at the end ![]()
ETA: You really can go from 0 cm (checked on Tuesday) to having a LO in your arms in just hours. Start to finish it was about 6 hours for me.
I had my little girl at 3:12 this morning Germany time. Last night I was laying on the couch and I felt a pop then some fluid came out so I hopped up. Then a big gush of fluid came out on the floor. I knew my husband was on instant messenger since we just got done talking and he was doing some school work. I told him my water broke and he told me to go get a new glass of water then, he was busy doing his homework lol. So I told him I was in labor then he ran over to the phones to call and check on me and the girls. As I showered and got last minute things together he talked to both the kids and helped prepare them. He told me to be sure I had my phone and he would call often. So I got my kids together and a friend came and got them while another friend got her friends to her neighbor so she could be with me.
We got to the hospital around 10 pm. Water was still coming out off and on and I was 2 cm with no contractions. So we got settled in a room and was told to buzz the midwife when contractions start or if anything else happens. Here instead of nurses for L&D it is all midwives. It was great. I didn't have to have an IV in, I could eat and drink if I wanted to and they had 2 really nice laboring rooms with nice lighting, different chairs, birthing balls, music etc. The midwife working last night did not speak much English at all. Good thing my friend knew bits and pieces but it was also pretty easy to understand what to do since this was my 3rd.
My husband called to see where I was at progress wise. I could tell he was exhausted since it was about 2 am his time and he had to be to work at 4 am. I told him if he wanted to, take a nap and call me before he went to work since there is only so much he can do over the phone anyways.
After about an hour I finally started getting contractions. Back labor...fun stuff. So after they kept on for an hour I let the midwife know and she checked me again...3 cm. She monitored the baby's heartbeat etc for a little bit then I was back to my room. It didn't take long at all for my contractions to really start going. I was having them back to back. Only 1-2 minutes between them. I am so grateful for the friend that was there with me. I wanted to give in and get an epi more then once but she helped talked me through it and I am so glad I didn't give in. Around 1:30 or 2 am I started feeling like I was going to throw up. My friend went to tell the midwife and to see if I could get a bucket for my room. She wanted to check me again. To my surprise I was at 7 cm! I was shaking because my contractions were so bad and pretty much non stop. Again I asked for the epi but my friend talked my down and helped get me through each contraction. The midwife was rubbing my back with massage oils to help as well. She was great. I asked for something for pain again at maybe 2:30. They gave me a supository (very common pain med in Germany that I always say I would never want lol). I don't think it really worked but it may just not have had time to work.
I was checked again and I was at 9 cm already. She called my doctor and he was there just in time. I think it was right at 3 am I started really pushing. Once I actually let my body push (I was so tense at first) it was not long before she was out. I was able to feel her head drop down a few times.
We had some problems delivering the placenta since I was not contracting at all once she was out. The gave me some pitocin and pushed on my belly (NOT fun!). After a little while it finally came out and it was more painful then I remember with my other 2. I had no tearing at all! That made me very happy.
She was born at 3:12 at 3130 grams (converted online and it is 6 pounds 9 ounces) and was 49 cm tall (converted to 19.3 inches). The ultrasounds was pretty much right on. On Tuesday she was measuring at 6 pounds 6 ounces. She seems so tiny but is perfect! She doesn't really cry or anything, just grunts when she is ready to eat. She has my chin...a very deep "butt" chin as my family always calls it.
Since baby was doing good and I was doing good we were able to go home after dinner. I only tooko pain meds once while there and that was right after breakfast. Recovery (well for today at least) has been going great. My older 2 daughters are so in love and don't want to leave her side.
Anyways...sorry for the novel. Here is a picture of Miss Aubrey Allan B.

Re: Aubrey Allan is here! PIP
Thank you! I did forget to include I told my friend to get the midwife's hand out of me lol. It hurt bad when she was checking me and the position of baby. I also kind of pushed my doctor when he was pressing on my belly super hard...reflex I guess lol. And I wasn't as quiet this time like I was with the other 2. I never thought I would be someone to scream but man that back labor was not fun!
Good luck! I hope it happens soon for you! I thought for sure my doctor jinxed me since he said at my last appointment "make an appointment for next week just in case I don't see you again this week".
Congratulations!
I am also having my baby in Germany and don't speak much German - it was nice to hear that your experience was a positive one!
What a lovely baby!
