3rd Trimester

Popping in from 2nd Tri for a more experienced opinion

In the past 2 weeks I have had this happen 3 or 4 times and I even went in to the midwife, but she checked everything and said I was fine... just wondering if anyone else is or has experienced this.

I am a singer and it has happened 3 times while I was singing and 1 time at work when I was pretty busy doing a mailing.

I get really hot like I'm having a hot flash, my muscles in my neck and shoulders tense up and it feels like no matter how I try to breathe I can't get enough oxygen.  I don't have trouble taking a breath, it just feels like I'm not getting enough oxygen. I start to feel like I'm going to pass out and throw up all at the same time... then after it passes I get a slight headache..

This actually happened today and church and on my way to get water to try and alleviate it I really almost fell in the hallway...

I know they say to eat small meals and drink alot, I had already had breakfast and something to drink, so I'm not sure what to think now.

ANY advice is appreciated....

  • I don't know about the muscles tensing up, but I've experienced hot flashes & flushing every so often. The only advice that I have is that no matter how much water you think you're drinking, it's probably not enough. Seriously. Get yourself a water bottle, like a Klean Kanteen or something, and just keep drinking & refilling it all the time. ALL the time.?

  • Sometimes when I am having a BH I get really hot, like you described, and my chest tenses up. For a while I thought I was having panic attacks but I think its because I was associating the tension in my ute & chest with tension from anxiety. If it happens again feel your belly to see if it is harder than normal- perhaps you are just having some BH.

In any case- drink lots of water, eat frequently and try your best to relax!

  • Yes, keep drinking....and make sure your sugar isn't low too.

Also, were you standing?  Some people can't tolerate standing for long periods of time...especially during pregnancy.  It doesn't even have to be a long period of time during pregnancy, it can be a couple minutes.  I had this problem before pregnancy and it's gotten worse with pregnancy.  Early 3rd tri I had trouble even sitting in cars as my legs pinching at the top would cut off some blood supply or something...It passed for me though (knock on wood), hopefully it will for you too.

I was thinking it might be BH cause I just read that they start around this time in PG... thanks for the advice...I'll have to remember to feel my belly next time. I also didn't add cause I thought it might be TMI that I actually "use" the bathroom either during or right after....perhaps from the contracting in my stomach that I haven't noticed..?

I've had that happen, too.  My other thought is blood pressure change.  Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it gets worse.  It stopped happening to me in 3rd tri.

  • Not sure about the tensing muscles, but I get hot-flashes like nobody's business.  I try to drink as much water as I can and get off of my feet whenever I get a chance.

  • Remember, too, that you are a singer. ? Your lungs are used to having a lot of room to fill with air--they don't have that anymore! ?You are going to feel this type of strain more often as you baby grows!
