Light and sounds activity gym - necessary?

I had registered for the Baby Einstein Baby Neptune light and sound activity gym.  A friend just lent me her Fisher Price Ocean Wonders activity gym, which does not have the light and sounds feature, just the basic toys.  I'm think of pulling the Baby Einstein one from my registry, but will I regret it later and be stuck buying it later on?

Re: Light and sounds activity gym - necessary?

  • My DS had the tiny love light and sound activity gym at my moms house.  It kept him very busy and was great for hand eye coordination.  We registered for one this time around with LO and someone bought it for us already.  It's a nice gift to keep on the registry because its moderately priced for those who don't want to splurge on something huge.  The thing I would say about the fuctions though is that it will probably be plenty fun for baby without the sounds and lights.  If you need other things more than I'd say take it off the registry.  I'm all about saving money, if someone hadn't have given us this one I probably would have looked for something a bit more cost effective.  You can always look for other things to put on your registry that are stimulating to baby this way too, like the swing, some have toys that they can grab that play music, etc.

  • I wouldn't say it was a necessity, but DS loved the lights/sounds on his playmat. I actually had 2 mats...so even if you end up getting the Baby E one, you can just rotate using both mats when DC gets bored of one.
