3rd Trimester

Those Who Have Kids

When did your LO start wearing 3-6 months clothing?

I have tons of newborn and 0-3 months clothing, but not much after that.  I'd hate to start getting stuff for 3-6 months, as it could still be summer or it could be early fall.

To avoid buying everything all at once and at the last minute, should I get some fall stuff and wait on the summer stuff...as that stuff can still be used in the summer for cool days and evenings...and in air conditioning?

  • It really depends on how big your baby is. My first was 9lbs 9oz. She was in 3-6 at just about 3 months. Also, if you use cloth diapers you will move into the larger sizes a bit quicker.

  • My DS has been wearing everything on schedule, but he was a little on the small side when born (6lbs. 5oz.). He is really catching up now at 5 months, but still has room in his 3-6 months clothes.
  • Yeah, I'd wait just because it really depends on you kid and it depends on the brand so much at that stage. I know for DS (5 lbs, 7 oz at birth.....yet gained weight quickly) that he wasn't in 3-6 mo stuff until fall. He was 6 months on Xmas day and he JUST started wearing 6 month stuff then.

  • Like pp said, it depends on your baby and the brand.  For example, Gerber onesies run small.  DS was 6lbs at birth. It usually took him a little longer to be able to fit clothes or if they fit, he did for some time because he had room to grow.  I would wait.
  • Thanks everyone!  I will wait (as tempting it is to pick-up an outfit or two while I'm out).

My DS is two and a half months old and he is definitely in all 3-6 month clothes.  He was in newborn clothing for no more than a month, but after switching to formula (from BM) he had a very quick growth spurt and was only in 0-3 for about a month too.

  • My DS was always pretty much on schedule. He was a little on the small side though 6pds 3oz. It just depends on you child.
