3rd Trimester

omg what a douchebag

The business admin at my work (a school) is a known douchebag. EVERYONE hates him. He is just pure evil.

Well, I just got my paystub (next to last for this school year). Inside, is a letter saying he is requiring all employees to show IN PERSON ID to receive the next paycheck. All pay will be held until this is done.

I sent him an e-mail asking, since I'm on maternity leave, if I will not get paid until I can physically make it in.

He responded simply with, "yes."

No more..no less. Any understanding would be human.

What a douchebag!! I do not feel comfortable driving a hour away and back BY MYSELF with me still having contractions. Plus, I don't want to have someone take off work to drive me.

What if I have my baby soon? I will be physically unable to make it there for weeks!

What a douchebag. He's citing some state mandate, but he is also a liar and I was warned that he could try to rip me off while I'm out. I might look up the mandate and see if it's BS.

Just pisses me off that what little I am getting paid I can't even get!!!

I CC'd my boss on the e-mail, so my only hope is that she can help.

DOUCHEBAG!

EDIT: I looked it up...it is a legit law. HOWEVER...it has to be done within the NEXT 3 YEARS! He just chose to do it in the next 2 weeks!!!

If our union wasn't A JOKE, I would ask them to look into it with me being on FMLA. However, they are unfortunately useless.

  • I would check with the powers that be first and foremost. However, I just had to go through some red tape (not anything like yours) but it did require me to present ID in person to verify my identity - it was required for the paperwork to be considered legal and binding.

Aggravating it was, but it was the means to an end.?

  • What an asshat!  I would definitely ask for clarification regarding this "state mandate" because if it is BS, he has no legal right to withhold your pay and you could have grounds to go to your state labor board and complain about him.  Hopefully your boss will be able to intervene on your behalf.  Seriously what is the point of him doing this?  GL!
  • isn't it illegal to hold an employees pay beyond the pay date? Especially someone on maternity leave. I really hope your boss straightens this guy out.
  • I don't know about NJ, but there was something like that in Oakland CA. they found out that there were a lot of people getting extra checks, some ppl were still getting paid even though they quit or were fired, and some weren't even alive but were still getting cashed by other ppl.

  • Is direct deposit an option? DH's final check is always held until he fills in all his paperwork, checks out his room, turns in his books, etc., but it still gets direct-deposited into our account.

(BTW- where in NJ and what do you teach?)?

I have direct deposit...and that would be held until I show ID.

South Jersey (rather not post on a public forum where I work) and I teach English.

  • Wow- then that sounds like the worst rule ever and completely defeats the purpose of direct deposit.

Yeah- I just meant in general, not specifically. :) If you were in my neighborhood I'd PM you to see if you knew of any openings in your district for 2ndary social studies. DH is on the market. ?

  • He's a db indeed.

I don't have any advice, but wanted to say I hope you get it worked out.  My dh is a teacher and I've heard about admins doing crappy things to the teachers before, but this ranks up there with the worst.
