3rd Trimester

Would you have a shower 2 weeks before you are due?

The shower would be an hour away and I have been measuring a month ahead at my last three visits.  Would you tell them sure or that we could plan something after she arrives. TIA!

  • I think I would just wait until after the baby...

  • No I wouldn't, unless that's the only date available. At this point, I don't really want to mingle and chat with a bunch of people. Plus, it is nice to get the shopping done before you are exhausted at the end of 3rd tri.
  • I'd wait until afterwards, if you have the choice. But if not, I guess I would be fine with it.

  • I would not mind but you do run the risk of not being able to make it if baby arrives early.

  • My MIL is throwing me one three weeks before I'm due two hours away.  I'm not overly thrilled since we'll have to stop ten times for bathroom breaks, but it was the only option I was given... Don't want to piss her off - lol.

I'm in the saaame boat, almost. Mine is now supposed to be about a month before I'm due- it's 2 hours away. Can't really do much about it since other people are throwing it. All I can hope is that I can make it and stay through the whole thing.?
  • I have my second and final shower 3 weeks before I am due but it's here in town. If I had to travel that far I would just wait.

  • An hour away I would say yes with the understanding that if the baby comes early you wouldn't make it.  I moved an hour away at 38 weeks, then returned "home" to give birth.  Even if you went into labor there, you would almost definitely have time to get to your hospital with your doctor.  Those last few weeks I was glad to have something else to think about rather than sitting home wondering when I was going to go into labor!

  • I think an hour away would be fine.  Some people have to travel that far to get to their hospital.  I'm sure everyone would understand if you didn't make it because the baby made an early appearance.  However, since baby could also be late it would be a nice distraction to help with the waiting game.

  • No way. I'm way to uncomfortable to sit around and smile with a bunch of people. Also, a car ride of that length (and back) would be miserable.

I measure ahead too- so far I haven't gone early, I just get to enjoy being huge.

This. I would be too uncomfortable.

  • I wouldn't if I could avoid it.
  • I'm having one two weeks before my due date, due to a busy summer!  Its all that we could make work and still be before the baby gets here.  I really would have liked it sooner, but if I wait until afterwards then I will be buying a lot more stuff on my own that I am hoping to get as gifts.

So- I will be a little uncomfortable and hugely pregnant at my shower as a sacrifice to receive some great gifts for the baby prior to his/her arrival and save us a big shopping spree (hopefully).

I do not think an hour away is that big of a deal.  Just make sure that you have people to help yo unpack everything and put it away for you.

I think it will give you something to look forward to during those last few weeks.
