Hemorrhoids - Wipes or Cream?

Well, it's happened.  I was in the shower this morning and I definitely felt a hemorroid.  It doesn't hurt (YET!) but I'm sure that's what it is.  When I told DH, he ran right out and got some medicated wipes and cream for me.  What a sweetie!  So which works better?  TIA!

Re: Hemorrhoids - Wipes or Cream?

  • I have used the wipes before and they are uh-mazing. haha. I read on here that they work great for post-birth as well... so keep those puppies handy!

  • At my OB's office in the bathroom they have hemorrhoid wipes so I would guess that those are better. Sorry you got the hemmys! I hope they go away quick.
  • I soak witchazel on a wash cloth and apply to hemmeroid for 20 mins. The creams only help me if it is itching. The wipes have witchazel in them. Good luck!
  • I use the wipes they seem to help a lot.

  • You need both!!!  In my experience, just one won't work as well as both will.

I use the wipes first, then apply the cream.  There are a few different kinds of creams, I like the one that has hydrocortizone cream in it.  It seems to shrink things.

  • For the mother of all hemmorhoid potions I recommend prescription Proctofoam HC if your doctor would be kind enough to write one for you (oh and if your insurance will pay).  Warning TMI approaching:

You spray the foam directly into your butt and don't have to worry about leaking, wet, yucky swamp a$$ feelings you could get from ointments or creams.

Also - definitely do the witch hazel on a nice sturdy Bounty folded between your crack for about 20 minutes (I think someone recommended this above).  Cheaper than buying Tucks Pads and it's the same active ingredient - witch hazel!

You could say I am somewhat of a heiney specialist...my mother, a nurse of 35 years, has often been called the a$$ clown by her coworkers because she is excellent at treating people's butts (all issues ranging from constipation to hemmorhoids).  Infact her motto is "Too pooped to poop? I'll pop your pooper!"  So I know a little about butts...

  • Sitz baths have always helped me with these being three pregnancies. You can also bath in epsom salt. Wipes are always soothing specially wipes with witch hazel.
