Why is it we people only want to go drinking

So none of my friends have kids and I am 33.  Some of the men have children but they dont live with them.  And they only want to go driking on the weekends.  I will go out for a couple of hours but then it gets so boring.  DH wants to go out everyother weekend because he doesnt get to see them anymore so I sit home alone.  It just stinks.  And I dont want to tell him to stay home all the time because I am pregnant but I need out of this funk, or maybe I just need new friends. And we arent talking come home at 1am.  These guys stay up all night like they are in college still. DH has stopped doing that after our last fight about it, but I just dont get it.  Anyone else in this boat? Sad

  • Oh and these arent bars where you can dance.  It is strickly lots of stupid drunks.

  • yeah, a lot of our friends activities involve drinking, but I don't blame them- if I weren't knocked up mine would too. We still go when we can and leave early. DH misses it some but doesn't mind staying home with me. He did tell me the other night he misses his drinking buddy (me) so I can't wait to be able to sit outside with him and have some beer!

  • That sucks! All of the guys DH works with go out drinking every weekend, all weekend. And our friends do drink, but its generally at someone's house rather than going crazy at the bar.

Honestly, I think it just got too expensive, somehow we could afford it in college but now that we have jobs it just got put into perspective what a waste of money bar hopping is.

  • Tell him he needs to stop going out so much..you do have a baby on the way.  not much time for going out when LO arrives!
  • can you maybe brainstorm and propose a different activity?

I hear ya, problem is I was right there beside him up until we found out I was pregnant.  Now I guess I am jealous.

The problem isnt him going out. It is more me not being able to go out anymore or not having fun when we do because people end up getting stupid.  So I get bord.

He's probably wanting to go out more now because he knows that when lo arrives, that's the end.

My DH still goes out with our friends every weekend. If they start early, I usually go hang out for a couple of hours, until I get tired. Then i come home on my own and DH stays out having fun. I do get jealous from time to time, but I know if I wasn't pregnant, i'd be right out there with him.

IMHO I don't think it's right to tell him not to go out anymore. But maybe compromise. Next weekend, DH is going to start going out with friends only once on the weekend so that we can have one hangover free day a weekend do start getting the house ready. lol. And he was fine with this suggestion.

I feel you!  I'm the only one of my gf who has kids (1 DS and 1 OTW) and they always go out.  I used to feel left behind right after I had my 1st but, honestly, it was easier for me to make new friends in my neighborhood that have kids/families and are more my pace, now.  My DH gave up trying to keep up with the drinkers when I stopped having sex with him unless he came to bed at the same time I did..... I felt like a total biatch at first with that rule but hey, if momma's not happy, no one's happy!!!

    Good luck!

This was happening to me at first too. So now I usually only hang out for a couple of hours until I get tired (and the drunken conversations start which aren't as interesting/funny if you aren't drunk as well) and then go home. Usually straight to bed cause I'm exhausted. The next morning I get up much earlier than DH, and I started coming up with things to do to keep me occupied. Knitting my baby's blanket, hanging out online, going shopping, meeting friends for coffee/tea (OJ for me), mani/pedi, etc.

Once you start finding things to do when you're on your own, it won't bother you as much. Or at least that's how it worked for me.

  • The only thing my boyfriend does right now is party every single day and night. I ask myself what kind of life is that? I am so sick of it, and none of his friends even understand the concept of why he should be home with me at night, but nope they just call me a jealous b!tch because i don't get to go out anymore.  But then again somebody once told me that women become mothers when they became pregnant, men become fathers when the baby is born. But let me tell you, if he keeps this partying thing going on even after LO has arrived you bet a million dollars i'm going back home.

    I feel you 100%. Confused

  • I understand. I feel like I haven't seen our friends in forever.  Its not fun to be the sober one at a bar.  I just get tired and cranky.  DH goes out occasionally without me and I'm so jealous.  We're going to a party tomorrow night.  I'm already dreading it because I will get tired, want to leave early and the drunks will just annoy me.
