I'm personally not a fan of new "hip-hop" and rap.. mainly because its getting pretty stupid... but i prefer my little one listens to neo-soul, certain pop artist [Adele], Cold PLay.... gospel...
My DS has always loved the Old School Hip Hop station on our TV - he dances to it - and i don't mind it b/c the words were nice back in the day... now, i would not put it on with all the negativity towards women, etc.

what about you?
I'm with you on this. Anything that has cursing, discrimination, any racial slurring in the lyrics - I think there is too much of that right now.
LO won't listen to anything that I don't listen to. I listen to mostly Pop (She seems to really love Britney Spears) and some Hip-Hop. I will stay away from songs with curse words in them.
We are going to follow the same plan we followed with our daughter. If there is absolutely anything questionable it's out. The songs should be positive and uplifting. Anything that contains lyrics we don't agree with just don't make the cut. We would like our children to enjoy all music, so we create specific play list on our ipods for the car and house that range from nursery songs, old school from all decades, christian music, classical music, hip hop, country, jazz, some rap and a few of the new children artist from disney and nick. That seems to work well.
LO loved Tool and Rob Zombie when he was younger. I was Ok with it because young ones love the strong rythyms in that kind of music. Once he started talking, I paid more attention to lyrics, and cut more of that stuff out.
Right now, though, I am regretting his personalized Elmo CD. Every morning on the way to daycare. Every evening on the way home. I love that he can sing every word, and it's nice to sing together...but, oy vey...some days I could chuck that thing out the window!!
Ditto, only because I don't want to hear it. We'll just play the music we like around them when little, when they're older and develop their own tastes they can listen to whatever they want.
Amen to this. We will probably stick with classical, classic rock, and early 90s grunge (think Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, etc.) as long as the language isn't bad. That's what he seems to like in utero (no pun intended). I don't particularly like the new music that's playing these days, so that's out. In the end, he'll listen to whatever I listen to, which rarely if ever includes bad language. I don't use curse words regularly, so I don't really like listening to them in my music choices.
Pop country and gangsta rap. Because those are the two types I absolutely can't stand. And anything overtly religious.?
I'm sure he will listen to a lot of punk, ska, and classic/new classic rock, because that's what DH and I listen to mostly. We don't listen to the radio ever, so for at least a few years we'll definitely be able to control what he's hearing.?

We will probably be pretty lenient with this...but try to keep them away from hardcore rap and heavy metal with tons of swearing in it. We'll also teach them that they are just song lyrics and not real life though...I'm sure as they get older they will hear music and it won't be in our control. One awesome thing about my parents- they always let me listen to whatever I wanted (although I couldn't have Limp Bizkit on when my father was home), and I always appreciated that...music was my outlet in high school!
At this point, I am trying to listen to all of my rock and rap CD's loudly in the car while I have the chance...everything from the 1990s until now....so until he is born, the LO is hearing Korn, Eminem, and tons of rap...and he moves like crazy every time! Once he is born, it will be more Beatles, Josh Groban and kid-oriented CDs in the car!
Whatever I listen to the baby & my daughter will listen to. I don't listen to things that have curse words in them, in fact I don't even really let dd listen to Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You b/c of the word suck. I can tell you that when pregnant with dd I always listened to Rascal Flatts & to this day dd still loves Rascal Flatts but she also loves Heartless by Kayne West, Beyonce, & Brittney Spears.
Re: What type of music will you not let your baby listen to if possible?
Because the baby can differentiate between good pop and bad pop music.
any music that isn't offensive/bad words, etc.

But definitely no country.
