I hope that it's something that varies by region, but around here Walmart is not exactly known for quality. Which is fine, I did my research on the manufacturer for my purchase, but for most things it's more about being cheap than anything. And it's also fine, because in NJ I have about a billion other places to shop if I can't find what I want or I'm not happy with the quality.
What happens when you live out in a rural area where there aren't many other options but Walmart? Is Walmart still a little skeevy or do they step it up because they know there aren't too many other options?
Re: Question about Walmart
Baby Macy is here!

Not far from you, and Target is defintely my choice of big-box store.
By the way, why are there not many Babies R Us's around here?
The walmart here is... alright. It's nothing fantastic but we have target and kmart as competition and thats it.
Target is better quality clothing and merchandise, but it's not a super center so we are limited with groceries. Walmart is also the cheapest in our area but it's funny because they wont match the North walmart/south walmart prices. (If one walmart is selling something for 10 dollars cheaper, but run out and you take the reciept or call to confirm, the other walmart still wont compete- strange.)
But Kmart is the worst-
I think it depends on where you are. Ours is just ok.
Please, please, please, view the video The High Cost of Low Prices before you decide to spend your hard-earned money at Walmart.
Ethics aside, you can get better deals for better quality if you shop around online.
For the record - if you order and do the "site to store" to save money, it does save money, but you also have to wait regular time for shipping. Ordering it to go to the store doesn't save any time. We waited 22 days for some bookshelves, and they weren't even on backorder.
I know there's one near me in Deptford, and there's one in Cherry Hill, but that's about all I know. I remember they did a lot of reshuffling when kids r us closed, but I didn't think BRU was affected.
Do you have a buy buy baby near you? There's one in Cherry Hill that I love. I'd considering registering there if they had one near DH's family in Monmouth/Mercer county...
For me... it all depends on what it is I am buying. If I'm grocery shopping or need to pick up some shampoo or something like that then I don't have a problem with going to Walmart. If I'm looking for clothes or something else where quality matters more then I usually will go somewhere else. That's not to say that I haven't bought other things at Walmart on occasion... it really just depends on what it is.
Up until maybe 5 years or so ago, we only had Walmart ... no Target yet, so I did much more shopping there. Now that we do have Target, I usually shop there.
I don't think so...I'll have to look. They're a part of BBB, right?
Yep. And they take their coupons as long as they aren't expired. Kind of how Linens and Things took BB&B coupons and vice versa.
I moved to Walmart to where Walmart's home offices are about three and a half years ago. It was hard at first. I used to come home crying and screaming that I couldn't find fresh herbs, or what have you. The worst and most memorable time was when I wanted to make tacos and their lettuce bad iceberg lettuce even was all wilted. Who can eat a taco with wilted lettuce. My poor husband. I'm pretty sure he spoon fed me a couple xanax that day. The grocery stores were at the time, and still sort of are, very limited and spaced out. Like 40mins r/t to get to a grocery store when we first moved here. I found ways of getting the fresh produce I wanted by going to the little Mexican markets in the not so nice part of town, driving two hours each way to Tulsa, OK just to get to a Whole Foods, and that sort of thing. It sucks and it's one of the things that makes me miss home more than anything.
For the record. I do not go to Walmart. Thankfully Target finally broke through the Walmart mafia and opened a store 2 miles from my house.
The other day I bought cheap flip flops at Walmart. They were tied together, so I didn't check the size. Got them home, wore them a few times, and then felt like one of my feet was swelling. Well, actually, I had wanted two size 10 shoes, and ended up with one size then and one size 8. Yea...nice.
As for Target-I worked there-honestly, the stuff is just about the same quality wise. Sorry! I don't know much about babies are us.
But, if you are in the market for looking for reasonably priced items, are there any consignment shops nearby? as long as you do some research to make sure things aren't recalled, you should be fine (and clorox the items as well!!)
Coming from someone who lives in a rural area and Wal-Mart is all you have, you shop there. I don't buy clothes there or anything like that, but for my household items and such it's Wal-Mart that I shop at. I have to either drive 35 or 60 miles one way to even get to a Wal-Mart to shop.
Growing up, all we had was a Wal-Mart. There were malls and such in Tulsa but that was 30 mins away and Mom didn't want to drive it often. You get used to it and you shop there. Simple as that. Sometimes the stuff breaks, but sometimes you get some good stuff there. Even if it does break, it was only $4 right??
