The guy at the bike shop said they need to comfortably fit in the harness which he said is generally around 18 months old. They also obviously have to wear a helmet.
One of my friends said she got the go ahead from her kids' pedi to have her 7-11 month old (ages that spanned the summer) ride in it last year.
DD2's head is in the 97th percentile so finding a helmet wouldn't be difficult since she has a good sized head. I guess I'd be a little nervous about her tipping forward or to the side over big bumps, which is why she'd have to fit well in the harness.
I plan on calling the ped's office to see if they have general guidelines for this. But wanted to see when you first used it! Please share.
(this will decide whether DH gets a bike this year or next since one of us will have to stay behind with the little one if she can't ride in the trailer
)
Re: What age did you start using a bike trailer?
We started to use it for short rides around 8-12 mos. She sat in the infant car seat and the strap went around it. After she was able to sit in it, I saw a friend with a cool seat made for infants so next baby we will get that. I have yet to look them up because we dont need it yet.
