We're considering switching from a daycare center to a certified in-home because of costs (probably only for a year or so). I had DS in an in-home (a friend of a friend sort of thing) when he was a baby and hated it! She left him in his exersaucer most of the day, always called last minute that she or her kids were sick, etc. So because of that bad experience I'm totally dreading the switch. Please help me feel more assured (I really don't need the negatives of in-home- I'm quite aware of them). THANKS!!!

Re: PLEASE- share your "pros" to using in-home daycare!!
Reasons why I love our in-home daycare-
1. The dr recommended it when DS was getting too many ear infections and viruses and after the switch he got sick a LOT less. And when he did get sick, it was a basic runny nose or something.
2. Provider has a full time assistant. Smaller setting but with 2 teachers, which he would have at a center.
3. They use a preschool curriculum and DS has learned a LOT there.
4. Her basement (which is really big) is set up like a daycare with a kitchen, eating area, play area, centers, library, cubbies and separate nap room. DS isn't just sitting in someone's living room watching tv. Also, she has a separate entrance. We're never in her actual house so everything seems separate from her "real life."
5. So much cheaper than a daycare!
6. She's on the food program so I don't have to take any food or snacks.
There's probably more but I think those are the main ones.
EDIT: How could I forget this? I love the family feel and how the teachers "know" DS and are bonded with him. At most daycares around here there is a high turnover rate of really young workers who don't last long because they don't really love babies/kids and get paid crap. I was meeting new teachers all the time!

My mom ran a daycare out of our home for 16 years. She was great at it, always had families for long term, charged a great rate and loved the kids! She has been retired for over 5 years now and still keeps in contact with most of the families.
They are NOT all bad.
She will be watching our baby girl once I go back to work and couldn't be more excited!
