I had found a photographer that specializes in newborns. She says for $200, she will shoot our family in her studio and outside for 4 hours. Primarily she will focus on the baby, but she'll also do a few family photos and some of just my older daughter. This seems like an ok deal (no prints though, just online and full rights), but then I think about what I could do with that $200.
DH says book it if I want. I'm usually such a cheapo (DH is completely the opposite), it's hard for me to justify it. I mean, I carry around a $10 bag from Forever 21 that is 3 years old. lol
Are you getting them or doing them yourself? How much are you paying if going the professional route?
Re: How much would you pay for newborn photos? Are you doing them?
I'm paying $235. They are going to come to our home too and shoot pics of her here. They'll also do pics of the nursery. We get 25 pics and a photo board and online proofs in case we or family want to order them.
Trust me - I am frugal as they come - but I didn't do maternity pics so I could splurge on her NB photos.
We're using Worthington Photography (www.worthington-photography.com). Her sitting fee for four hours at our home is $500. Plus we are paying an additional 150 for "travel" since she lives 1.25 hours from our house. As with your package, the prints and products, etc are extra.
I think it's totally worth it. Definitely a splurge, but worth it! Your package sounds really reasonable--we looked at quite a few other photographers in our area and their sitting fees ranged from 150 to 350. Some

The cost of prints/digital files/products varies so much be vendor as well. While our photographers upfront costs are higher, her product costs are much lower.
That sounds like a good price to me, especially to have the rights.
I would love to have professional photos done, but haven't been ubber-impressed with the local photographers considering their prices. So I'm going to try to take some good ones myself... if I'm not happy, then we might use a professional.
Ok, so it sounds like the price is pretty reasonable. Her pictures are soo good, there's no way I'd be able to capture anything 1/2 as good myself.

Thanks everyone. I'll probably book it. She'll only be a newborn once in her life
i did not do them with DS - we took our own- but since it's twins this time + having DS, too - i wanted a pro so we could get good shots easier.
we hired a photog - she is $250 to come to our house and take the photos and do editing- and inculdes a certain amount of shots- then we pay extra for extra stuff.
We are going to have one done at the hospital...then I will take lots of pics at home. I have a 12 megapixel camera that I can play with.
A friend who is getting into photography gave me a package of maternity pics and newborn pics for my birthday. I am looking forward to it!
Is the photographer really good? Your baby is only a newborn once...and if they are going to be creative and excellent portraits then I think $200 is well worth it. How much did you pay for your wedding photos? Probably a WHOLE lot more.
As a photographer I couldn't imagine just having a friend do them (unless they are incredibly good) or going to a local department store. But that's me as a photographer, it's important to me. Some people don't care...it's all in what you want.
My advice...Try to think about what you would want in the future, not so much now.
I posted the link above. Her photos look really good to me. I love the artsy shots. You are right, wedding photographer was $2400. Yikes!! In the grand scheme of things, $200 isn't too much, especially since this is such a happy time in our lives.
My photographer is in the OC, if you are interested. I am paying less than $200, although I had a package with newborn and maternity photos. Let me know if you want her contact info, my email. sherthebear at gmail.com
Do you have a website? I want to do maternity pics by the beginning of next month and if a newborn session is included, that'd be great!
