Yeast Infection Question (TMI)

So, I think I have a yeast infection.  Since Friday I have been very itchy "down there" and have had tons of CM.  I've been using vagisil off and on just to ease the itch & was waiting till today to call the dr.  So, I explain everything to the dr and she says it doesn't really sound like yeast, but that I can take the OTC Monastat.  So, if it's not yeast then what the heck is it??!!  I couldn't talk to her long because I was at work, so I wasn't able to ask and wasn't thinking either!  Shw said since I'm coming in for my first pg visit on the 19th, there is no need to come in now.  I d/k.  Thanks girls!

Re: Yeast Infection Question (TMI)

  • I don't remember if I had alot of CM when I had mine or not. I do know that they sell test kits for Yeast Infections at the stores and the DO work. So you might get one of those and see what it says.

In the mean time don't have realtions with your DH and wash all your underwear in HOT water.

  • It might just be itchy from the increase Cm due to your BFP.  If your uncomfortable I would Just get the Monastat.  If it get's worse than I would just call back and request an appointment.

  • Tons of CM can be just a pregnancy symptom. And most doctors recommend against Vagisil and stuff like that because it can throw off the delicate balance down there and make things worse. Keep everything really, really clean and dry, but if it's itchy and irritated, it could be a bacterial infection and they should check it out. GL!
  • I had a lot of CM with mine. And (TMI alert) the CM smelled a bit like bread - very "yeasty". The monistat should come with a little bit of external cream to stop the itching. Even if it's not a YI, the monistat won't hurt anything.

Is it possible that you have a urinary tract infection? That can make you burn/itch as well.

  • Thanks girls!  I bought the 3 day monastat, so we'll see what happens.  I have no internal itching and no burning when I urinate.  Just external itching and lots of CM.  I explained this to the Dr. and that is why she doesn't think it's yeast, but to use the monastat anyway.  I was just a little confused about why she wants me to still use the monastat if she doesn't think it's an actual yeast infection.  Confused  I'm just worried about it not being safe.  But, I guess if my dr is ok with it then it's fine.

Did she tell you which monistat to use?  I was told when I had a YI to only use the full 1 week treatments while pg.  I think it has to do with the concentration of the medicine being weaker in the full week treatments.

Also if you are really itchy gynolotrimin(sp) might be better.  It has a steroid element that will help with the itch.  Monistat makes me so uncomfortable that I usually end up needing to jump in the shower and rinse it off.  Which defeats the purpose of using it.

Also, if you are so bold, plain yogurt will do wonders for the discomfort.  Especially when it is really cold.

My doctor told me to use the 7 day too.
