My DH and I constantly talk about what we want to pass on, from us, to our LO, from our parents, what we will do differently than our parents, etc...
What are some things you want your LO to have/not have?
From Us: That we find the humor in just about everything, know that love is the most important thing, and to be happy with yourself doesn't mean doing things so that other will look up to you (my ILs believe in sacrificing yourself and those around you to make a random person think you're OK)
From Parents: To learn to be autonomous and that manners/chivalry don't have to die
Do Differently: That we don't have to be in our child's face to ensure they love us or won't forget us and to respect the differences among people the way we want to be respected
Re: What do you want to pass on?
I definatly want our LO to have my sense of humor and DH's drive.
I don't know what I want passed on from our parents, I should give that some thought
I don't want our child/ren to grow up the way we did... Dh was surrounded by mental illness that wasn't take seriously and I had an extremely overbearing mother who wante me to be a little version of her.
We definitely want him to be able to laugh at himself & all situations. & we want to teach him humility & loyalty.
& I'd like for him to have Nate's nose & eyes, but my ears & chin.
Vain wishes: I hope the LO has my teeth. If nothing else, dear Lord, please let him have my teeth.
Real wishes: We want him to be able to understand and be compassionate to people who are in different circumstances than we are. We also plan to raise him in a Christian home and pray that he eventually decides to have a relationship with Christ. AND... I hope he's funny like we are.
I hope he doesn't inherit: his father's tendency to be silent... but with a loud mom, he's gonna have to have some sort of voice!
I can't think of anything from the grandparents- we are basically spitting images of our parents (Joe's quiet, I'm loud, etc.) so I guess my other wishes encompass that!
wife to joe 2.2.08. mama to noah 9.5.09.
After multiple m/c's, a MTHFR diagnosis and the Lord calling both of our hearts in the same direction, we're adopting!
