2nd Trimester

So let's talk pregnancy.

& let's do this flame-free if we could, considering medical reports that the reason they suggest NO alcohol is due to the unknown amount that causes fetal alcohol syndrome & everyone & their doctors feels differently about this subject.

You drinking? Surprise

I admittedly had a very lovely glass of merlot last night.  It was so tasty.

But I draw the line at wine.  I don't think HJ needs to experience gin or deflowering a woman before his 21st birthday.  I am a prude like that.

Re: So let's talk pregnancy.

  • I have yet to drink. I would like to sometimes, but I don't. I feel I can hold out for another 20 weeks.

  • I had been CRAVING a margarita for... let's see.... 4 and a half months, so I had about 3 oz of one on Saturday.  It was pure bliss.  No other way to describe it.  Pretty sure the minute amount of alcohol in those three ounces won't hurt BB.

  • I've had the very occasional glass of wine and sips from DH's glass/beer bottle.  But I agree - I'm not testing the effects of hard alcohol.  As much as I long for a margarita.
  • No, but wasnt really a drinker pre-pergnancy (maybe drank once or twice a year). Although I dont see a problem if a pregnant lady wishes to enjoy a glass of wine every now & again (especially later in the pregnancy).
  • I am not a "drinker" anyway. Meaning, I just don't like the taste of beer or wine, and may (pre-pg) indulge in the occasional mixed drink. I have heard from a lot of people that wine is okay to drink while pg (amount I am not sure), but I know that people are encouraged to drink a certain amount a day or week for health reasons (promotes healthy blood pressure, or healthy heart or something).

The way I see it, as long as your dr says it is okay, go for it.

    Drinks this is wine, lol!

  • I had a glass of champagne at my SIL's wedding. I've also had a sip or two of beer (had to it was Sam Summer with a lemon! Surprise).

However alcohol just doesn't taste the same for me so it's strictly a sip or two, a glass is out for me until the taste comes back.

a little, but it does still scare me.

over the second tri, i guess i've had one glass of wine and about 6 sips of hubby's beer. i won't touch liquor.

  • I have not... because I never really drank before pregnancy either.  I have however had deli meat.

  • I have had a couple sips of beer and wine throughout the pregnancy, but never a whole glass to myself ::sighing wistfully::

I have a pre-natal massage on Thursday thanks to FI (mother's day gift) and I think the perfect thing that would accompany it (after, of course!) would be a glass of wine. We'll see, though. I have been so good...

And I agree that, if I were to have anything, it would just be beer or wine. No hard liquor, that just seems silly to me. I can justify wine (my dr said one glass can help alleviate cramps) and beer is good for milk production (so I hear) but so far nothing on margaritas or Jager bombs!

  • I've had two glasses of wine so far.  With my current stress, they were fully warranted (a week and a half apart).  Plus, they tasted soooooo wonderful because I haven't had any for a few months.  Absence really does make the heart grow fonder!!

  • I'm not drinking. I feel like for me, it's a slippery slope. I'm not a huge drinker, but a once-in-a-while glass of wine could easily become a daily thing!

I may reconsider later in the pregnancy, but for now, as long as I'm not missing it too much, I'd rather not get in the habit.

  • I have yet to drink (besides my first tri before i found out i was PG) but my doctor told me that a glass of wine a week is ok!

  • Yup! Sips of beer & wine from DH's glasses, and I've had one small glass of wine. It was such a treat - I can't wait to have another! Anything else though makes me feel guilty :)
  • I had about two ounces of Reisling at a wine tasting back at the end of March, but that's all I've had thus far.  I plan to have a glass or two during the week we spend in NYC at the end of this month as well to celebrate our first anniversary.  When I think about it, I feel comfortable having a glass a week or so, but I just haven't - I don't want to open a bottle if I'm only going to drink one single little glass.  Like you, I draw the line at wine - this baby doesn't need to experience my old white russian daiquiri friend.
  • I have had a glass of wine a few times. I also have a mandatory rule that I get the 1st sip of hubs beers - it's just something about summertime and wanting a nice ice cold beer. I think I may be causing him to become an alcoholic, I keep making him open beers so I can have a sip. Wink

  • I do... once a week.  Doc said it was absolutely fine to have 1-2 beer/wine per week.  I stick to a beer or wine, no hard alcohol.

  • I have a glass of wine every one to two weeks. I had one last night for Mother's Day because we had an expensive beef tenderloin and dammit, I was going to enjoy a nice glass of red wine with that beef! :-)

I also take sips of DH's beer every once in a while. AND I've had one tiny sip of a margarita because my sister said it was one of the best she ever had so I needed to taste just a bit of it.

  • I haven't had anything.  I've wanted to but haven't.  First b/c DH will freak out and 2nd b/c my babies will likely have enough to deal with as multiples can lead to all kinds of complications I might as well not throw anything else in there on them.  I'm sure it would be fine but just in case.

  • no, but really haven't been in the mood to have a drink either. i don't miss it at all, which is weird for me.

i was a big drinker pre-pregnancy, and I come from long line of drinkers, my babe will probably like the sauce later in life, so I'm going to try to keep it away from him/her as long as I can.

  • I see no problem with the occasional sip of wine or beer.

I've been drinking grape juice out of a wine glass at home -- usually when DH is having a glass of wine and I want to feel included.  I've had one real glass of wine (nice steakhouse, nursed it over 3 hours with a big meal and it was good!), and I have tasted DH's drink a few times.  I would love a fruity cocktail -- in fact I've already told my family that as soon as this kid is out I'm having a margarita party.

  • I haven't yet, but I also haven't craved it yet.  I expect when the weather is hot I will indulge in a glass of white wine or a beer.

I had a half glass last week and I take sips off of DHs here and there.

My mother swears by this.  She is forever telling me the story of how engorged she was after my birth and how her MIL would force her to stand in the shower and drink beer - which would make the milk literally spray from her nipples.  Lovely story.... lol
  • I've had sips of my hubby's beer or wine on occasion and I have enjoyed a Beck's NA on a couple occasions! A little further along and I will partake in a full glass of wine and I can't WAIT!

  •  I have a glass of wine for dinner probably about two nights a week.

Sorry, with dinner - not FOR dinner. Smile

  • I have not drank anything other than a sip of champagne at my wedding. Unless you count my bachelorette party, but I did not know I was pregnant!
  • I've had 2 1/2 glasses of red wine, spread out over second tri. It's been about 3 weeks since I had anything, the guilt outweighs the pleasure...
  • i've had two sips of alcohol since getting pregnant...a sip of a mojito and a sip of a daiquiri.

i'm not opposed to wine here or there either but i haven't had any.

  • I haven't and won't until possibly when I am in labor (then a glass of wine at home).

It's simply b/c we dont' know what amount is safe or not and I am not wanting to find out or risk it in that department.

  • I have had about 1/8 a glass of red wine on a few occasions if my back was killing me and I needed sleep, but it made me dizzy so I see no point in pushing it... especially now that I am really showing, I feel like a creep even having a sip of beer when we are out. ?
  • I was a big time wine drinker prePG but haven't had sip since the BFP. The further we get into the PG, the more I think about just having a small glass here and there.. but I just haven't.?

I woke up Christmas Day with a HUGE temp drop and thought for sure we were out for that cycle. I was so bummed at the thought of another failed cycle (and learning about it on Christmas) that I drank all.day.long. Not kidding. Everything that passed the plane of my lips was alcoholic that day. For some reason, I decided to test before bed that night (telling DH it just felt too weird to not test at all that cycle) and much to our surprise - it was very very?positively?2 lines.??

For weeks I felt so bad about how much I had to drink that day.. maybe that's why I haven't indulged in my wine thus far. ?

  • I haven?t had a personal drink, but I have taken sips of DH beer, margarita and wine on occasion. Small sips, but enough to satisfy the craving...

  • I have had no alcohol with this pregnancy nor with my pregnancy with DS.  I miss it terribly but I figure it is a small sacrifice that I can make for my LO, if anything were to be wrong I would always have the "was it because I had that one glass of wine?" running through my head.  That said after DS was born MIL came over my first night home with a bottle of wine and I thoroughly enjoyed a glass, I have given her instructions to do the same this time.  She also came to the hospital the morning after DS was born with a full caffeine latte and a yummy breakfast!
  • None for me. I wasn't a big drinker before so it hasn't been very hard for me to stop. When I have a craving for wine I make some virgin sangria with fresh fruit. It is delicious!
  • I have had a handful of  3-4 oz glasses of blue moon or corona since about 15 weeks. My husband is a doc and agrees that most bannings on no drinking while pregnant is because you can't make exceptions when there has been evidence linked to it at all, but in small amounts there has been no proof of ANY damage to fetus.

  • I will occasionally have a sip of dh's beer or a couple sips of wine. The other night we went out to dinner and I had 1/2 glass of sangiovese. It was so good.  If I thought any of this was really harmful I wouldn't do it, but doc says it's fine in small amounts occasionally.

  • Sad none for me...I'm too afraid! But I crave my Margaritas every day... I'm just afraid because of the effects alcohol has on me...I get the same feeling as when I was given morphine and found out I was allergic to it... rashy, painfully numb, dizziness...all after just one sip of any kind of alcohol...
  • I haven't yet, but I have been hoping for a little glass of champagne this weekend (we're going to a black tie event with family)

I have no problem with the occasional glass of red wine for a pregnant woman after the first trimester.
