what do you do about the red skin folds

my DD has lots of folds in her little plump skin :)  we do baby massages with lotion for most areas, like under her knees, etc.  but under her neck it is very very red.  (she doesn't like to lift her neck up so it's hard to clean, or get her to air it out.)  does anyone use anything for these red areas?  like baby powder?  or i just saw an ad for Balmex multi-purpose lotion that is for chaffing...

we worry about putting anything there because it would not get aired out and could just make it worse.

I have the same issue with the insides of my son's elbows because he keeps his arms bent all the time. I have been alternating between aquaphor and hydrocortisone creme (pediatrician told me to try this since were already using those for his eczema.)

  • I just noticed this on DD's neck.  I looked online for suggestions and they recommend taking a damp cloth (no soap) and wiping LO's neck AM & PM.  You can put Desitin o to help the irritation.

  • I'll sometimes use Aquaphor if it really needs soothing.  Otherwise, I try to keep it clean and dry.
  • B has had this problem since birth & his pedi just gave him a prescription cream that I have to put on 2-3 times a day. I'd have your pedi look at it just to make sure it isn't an infection that needs something stronger. Just keep the area as clean & dry as you can!

  • I cleaned the area with a damp warm washcloth and put cornstarch on the neck.

Did this with both DD and DS and it works like a charm!

  • THANKS everyone!!!  this is all really helpful!
