Newborn sizes on registry?

I'm trying to finish up my registry before my baby shower in June and I'm wondering whether I should even bother to put any newborn clothes on the registry?

Re: Newborn sizes on registry?

  • We didn't register for any clothes but have received craploads!  We got some as gifts at our showers.  Others have been hand-me-downs from friends.  I'm so glad we never bought any clothes for these boys because I think we're set until they're at least 6 months old.

Nope, no clothes. People LOVE giving clothes.

  • At every baby shower that I have ever been to people give tons of clothes. I would not bother to register for any (or buy any until after the shower).

  • Ditto PP.?

In addition the the reasons listed about, let me just say it is HARD to find clothes that are on registries, and often times the stock has been changed out between the time you register and the time people are shopping for you.?

You will get clothes no matter what. Don't worry! :)?

  • I'd agree with the pp unless you are having a surprise baby (can't tell from your siggy if you know or not). DD was a surprise and we didn't get any clothes at my shower (i didn't register for any). Lots of people did send clothes after she was born. So maybe it's different for surprise babies because people can't go out and buy pink or blue. So i'd register for some if your LO is a surprise.

  • Ditto pp, I would not register for clothes, people will buy you clothes regardless.

If your asking about buying newborn sized clothes, I would say yes.
DD was 6lbs and was in preemie clothes until 5 weeks. She is almost 8 weeks and 10.2 lbs and is in newborn and probably will be for at least 2-3 more weeks.

  • Great advice ladies, I'll make sure to not worry about putting clothing items on the registry!

Thanks and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO YOU ALL!!!

  • I agree with pps..you don't need to put clothes on the registry but you will need to make sure you have some nb clothes on hand if you're not given any.
  • DS was in newborn sizes for 2-3 weeks. We had very few newborn clothes though, so he wore 0-3 stuff most of the time. It was a tad big, but it worked. I'm glad that we didn't have more newborn stuff because he outgrew it so quickly. He was a pretty big baby though (8lb 12oz), so that might not be the norm.
  • We didn't register for any outfits but did throw a couple essentials (onesies, sleepers, etc.) on there.  We mainly registered for things that were 0-3 and 3-6.  As we get closer to d-day and the doc has a better idea of how big A is going to be, then I'll go back and buy newborn sizes.
