Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 Foods

What is the difference? Is it just the size or is Stage 2 thicker than Stage 1. I mentioned to someone today probably switching to Stage 2 soon for DS since he's now eating 1/2 - 2 stage 1s at almost ever feeding and they told me I would have to be really careful if I did that because Stage 2 foods are thicker and harder for baby to swallow. The pedi. at his last appointment told me the only difference was the size of the container. TIA

Re: Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 Foods

  • I've only noticed that the sizes are different.  Stage 1 is 2 ounces and Stage 2 is 4 ounces.

  • I think the only difference is the size. I am actually annoyed that stage 2 jars are so thin, I am thinking of switching to stage 3 to give them more texture in a month or so... The stuff that I make myself is much MUCH thicker than stage 2, I even thicken it up with rice cereal sometimes

  • I think it is more the size. A couple may be a tad thicker. I think going from Stage 2 to 3 is the one where things are chunky and a lot thicker.
