Britax Marathon Vent/Frustration

I bought 2 of these seats and now I think I hate them. I don't feel like I can get DS tight enough in them. I had them professionally installed by a certified car seat person who stressed that the straps had to be tight... tight enough that you cant put your fingers underneath them. Well, I feel like there is more wiggle room than I am comfortable with every time I put him in it. And I get inside the back seat and literally pull the strap with all my might. My DH even has issues with this thing and he is strong. Am I the only one? I bought these because I though they were the best/safest and now I'm worried my child isnt safe in it. Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Britax Marathon Vent/Frustration

  • i exchanged my marathon for two evenflo triumph advances and it's the best decision i could have made.  with the triumph, there is actually a knob on the side of the seat near DS feet that you can easily get to.  it takes two seconds to tighten and loosen the straps bc all you have to do is twist that knob (instead of trying to pull on the strap that is pressed up against the backseat).  i also love that you never have to rethread the shoulder harness.

i suggest going to the store (walmart, BRU, target all carry them) and trying out the strap system -- that's what totally sold me.

  • The best seat is one that a child is secured into properly.  That's why we bought the Evenflo Triumph.  We easily could have afforded 2 Marathons but I didn't want them because the Triumph is so much easier to use.

How long have you had them?  Can you still return them?

  • There isn't one seat that is safer.

I love my Marathon, but I do have a hard time tightening the straps. It is much easier forward facing (DD is rear-facing still) though.

If you can return them, then I would suggest the ETA. DD will probably forward face at 2, and I can deal with ours until then.

  • Yes, I agree with you.  I hate my Marathon.  But I love my Boulevard.

  • I see this complaint all the time and I dont get it. I get DD plenty tight.

You just pull the strap, let it go, pull it again...kind of a rocking motion and it jacks down the straps to get it tight. You don;t just pull in one motion like an infant seat, you have to "rock" the strap.

I guess I have the only properly functioning marathon?

I agree with this.  We just installed ours last weekend.  My husband seems to be having issues with it.  I tell him you just have to pull, release, pull (sorry if that sounds dirty :).  He studies me everytime I put DS in the seat.  I don't really understand what the problem is on his end.
