starting to workout?

Hi Ladies....  when did you start working out postpartum?  I had a vag birth w/ a third degree tear (ouch!) but have really started to feel a lot better this last week.  I am thinking I might feel like starting some light cardio in a week or two (I have a black tie event the end of June and I would really like to drop the last 10-15lbs of preg wt by then).  When did your OB give you the go ahead to exercise?  I don't see my OB until 6 wks PP, otherwise I would just ask him.  TIA.

Re: starting to workout?

  • I had a vaginal delivery and a 2nd degree tear, but healed really quickly. I was walking a few days pp and starting running 3 weeks pp. I didn't check with my doctor, just paid very close attention to what my body was telling me. If I had felt bad or my bleeding had started again I would have slowed down or stopped the running.

Edited to add: I did the same when I had DD, although I started running at 5 weeks pp. At my checkup (at 7 weeks) I told my doctor I was running and she said great. I'm the best judge of how I am feeling, and I should just listen to my body.?You could certainly call your OB and see if he/she will give you any advice over the phone.

  • You should wait until your 6 week appointment at a minimum.

  • I started working out 3 weeks PP and had my 6 week follow up and doctor said it was fine as long as you listen to your body
