"Are you miserable yet?" - summer pregnancy comments

Will somebody please explain to me why people feel the urge to tell me how miserable I am going to be this summer?

Seriously.

It's not encouragement.

Its not kind.

It serves no purpose and it's certainly too late to change it now.

I'm going to be pregnant for the better half of the summer. So what? It's hot. That's why God made air-conditioning. Granted, I never said the power bill might not be a little higher than usual this year. I may wander around in very little clothing.

But no, I'm not miserable and I really don't appreciate being told by you (never had kids friend / gas station clerk / etc) how miserable I'm going to be.

anyone else getting some of these comments?

Re: "Are you miserable yet?" - summer pregnancy comments

  • I hear you - I am tired of it already.

Everyone down here feels it's necessary to tease me about being from the "cold north", and not being able to handle the summers while pregnant.

If it continues, I imagine my patience will grow thinner until I snap.

  • I had the same thing happen to me.  I just said, i won't be that big in the summer and I am sure it will be fine, but really, I just wanted to say, "I do not intend to be miserable at all.  Thankyouverymuch, never been pregnant girl."
  • I just got this comment today, with a story about another pregnant lady who spent the whole summer lying on her bed in her underwear under the a/c.  So what?  Maybe I enjoy hot summer days and will survive??? We'll see...

  • I get them constantly... living in Houston Texas it's kind of a stupid question seeing as summer lasts from March to freakin November! It wouldn't matter if I wasn't pregnant in the "summer" here people! I plan on proving everyone wrong by lathering myself with SPF 65 everyday and laying in the pool in my bikini all summer... Take that negative people!

  • I feel you on this!! It has only started getting hot here and I get FB comments and txts ALL.THE.TIME.

  • Yes all the time, but I do dread it a bit b/c I do remember how hot I was in the winter. Thank God for swimming pools and air conditioning!

  • Some pompous old guy at work saw me and all he said was, "Looks like you're going to have a hard summer".  That was it.  Not a "hello," or anything!  Just the comment.  I mentally throat punched him.
  • I get that ALL the time. Geesh.

In 90 degree heat and humidity-we're all miserable. Who needs these stupid comments?

  • Luckily, I live in the Bay Area, Cali. The summers here are VERY mild compared to back home (Oklahoma). The only summer comment I get is "awwwww you get to be pregnant during the summer! Let's go to the beach!!"
  • ditto - i'm tired of it. i like to tell them all that i did it once (my oldest was born in september) and i am fine doing it again. summer pregnancy just means you can get away with wearing the least amount of clothing possible. haha!!
  • lol... see my post below "are you excited?"  Ppl are just plain dumb.  When ppl ask when I'm due and I tell them Sept, they get this look on their face as if they feel sorry for me and then proceed to tell me how horrible it's going to be.

Um thanks maybe we should just terminate now so I won't be so uncomfortable in the summer b/c you think I will be... idiots.  I can't stand it.

    YES!

This has happened on quite a few occassions, one was at a Farmer's Market a couple weeks ago, and two strangers kept telling me how miserable I was going to be, when a third stranger told them to STFU haha I loved it!

Isn't everyone miserable on hot, humid 100 degree days?  pregnant or not?

We will be just fine, and anyway, summer pg clothes look cuter than winter stuff, and we won't have to worry about bending over to put boots on.

  • I live in AZ everyone is misrable during the hottest part of the summer, I have pool though so I will be fine. I love how people point out the worst things of your pregnancy.

  • Ps. i live in northern minnesota :P so really its not that ?hot
  • I usually answer it with slightly TMI answers like, "I work from home, I sit all day naked/in a bikini to deal with the heat." Our AC is currently busted so we're waiting on that to be fixed but I figure the comments are only going to get worse once we hit over 100 daily.

Yes - and I know I'm not big yet or anything, but I'm sitting here with my heater on high and my jacket on while my coworkers are talking about how hot they are. I think I'll be fine.

    Lmao. Yeah really.

I live in the deep south, deep deep south. Our seasons are summer, summer, summer and not summer. During not summer, you might want to consider wearing a sweater with your blue jeans.

Seriously, it's warm-hot here 10 months out of the year. Pregnancy takes 9 months. Um, yeah, I kinda figured I'd be hot at some point during the pregnancy.

  • It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

  • I get "Oooh, you're going to have a long hot summer." and "Somebody didn't think about Louisiana summers when she got pregnant, did she?" and assorted similar comments all the time.  I also love, "You're due in August?  Sure hope we don't have a big hurricane!"  Yeeeeah - me too for reasons way beyond just this baby but thanks for pointing that out.
  • I would rather be big and pregnant and spending all summer happily floating around in the lake than be big and pregnant and have to worry about my already clutzy butt slipping and falling on the ice.

  • It really is quite annoying!!! and I will be pregnant the entire summer!!!
  • Jeez... I am s sick of hearing this come out of every single random person's mouth "It's going to be a hot summer".... they even smile when they say it! Yes, I live in Columbia, SC and during the summer it feels like Satan's ass crack down here. Everyone will be miserable and I will be in my 60 degree house thank you very much. I have to resist the urge to murder these idiots with their comments Angry
  • People have been saying that to me. It is especially stupid because it is ALREADY the same temperatures these days that it will be all summer long. How is the summer going to be any different?? What, because I'll be a few pounds bigger than I am already? Craziness.

  • I won't be that big during the summer, but I've been comments too.  I agree, they are annoying.  Good thing my SIL has a pool...I'll be over there everyday!

    This exactly!
  • If I had a nickle for every "wow, you're gonna be miserable in July" I'd have the kid's college paid for already. It is SO obnoxious. Esp. since in the Boston area last year it was cold and rainy for half the damn summer. We never know what we're going to get, but hey, thanks for the encouragement, jacka$$es!

  • I was sick for 12 weeks straight, now my back hurts- I think I can deal with it. Plus in October- I won't remember how miserably hot I was.
