Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What age would your LO let you lay them down drowsy, but awake?

If my LO is not totally out, he will not let me lay him down. We wakes right up and screams until I pick him up. Will this ever change? Also I have to lay him on his tummy, bc of previous spinal surgery. So if I give him his paci he just moves his face until it falls out. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks

DD started preferring being put down in her crib awake instead of being rocked to sleep around 3 months.

  • DD would go down like this for naps 0-3 months. At three months she stopped and I felt like I lived in the rocking chair for a month! At four months we taught her to self soothe (she too would spit out the paci, now she's a thumb sucker) and now she goes down fully awake. I'm careful not to overstimulate and to watch for her sleep cues. That helps me to put her down fuss free.

  • DD will go down at night still awake and fall asleep on her own.  She has been doing this since about six weeks.

  • Sorry if that isn't clear, I meant she would go down drowsy but awake 0-3 months. Then she got fussier for month 3 and better at month 4!
  • I have never intentionally rocked B to sleep.  Ever since he was born I would always take him into his room and rock him with his night bottle then put him down for the night.  Sometimes he will fall asleep during his bottle but usually he his somewhat awake  when I put him down.

We don't have a schedule yet - we just let him decide what he wants to do.  So this may not be helpful to you.  We just wait until he shows signs that he is tired then put him down in the crib. Also, we swaddle at nighttime, which helps settle him down.
