Babies: 0 - 3 Months

screaming baby!!

does anyones child scream for 2 or 3 hours??? My 4 week old at 8pm almost every night cries for hours. I try to feed him, change him, hold him, burp him nothing really works. Has anyone had this happen? I called his ped, but she hasnt called me back! i am just oober frustrated!

Re: screaming baby!!

  • That sounds like it could be colic.

Colic is defined by the "Rule of 3s":  The (healthy & well-fed) baby cries for more than 3 hours, 3 times a week, for more than 3 weeks.  Colicy crying usually begins in the evening at about the same time each day and starts when the baby is a few weeks old.

I can understand how frustrating it must be!  GL!

My pedi warned me today that many babies get fussy in the evening around one month.  DD has been fussier in the past week I've noticed.  Things that work for her is swaddling and putting her skin to skin on my chest.
  • As a pp stated, it sounds like colic. It could also be reflux or, if you BF, it could be gas caused by something you ate.

?How Will I Know That My Baby Has Colic?

I am sorry you two are having such a tough time! I hope your LO calms down soon.

  • When my baby does this it means he's ready for quiet and bed. I swaddle him or hold him tight, give him his binky and shush him and then once he's calm I lay him in his bassinet and he goes right to sleep. Not saying this will work as sometimes when he was younger i'd just have to try everything including the swing, boppy, bouncy...etc. GL
