Success after IF

yellow vomit - how worried should i be? :(

last night and today, daphne has vomited (more than just spit up) yellow/white vomit.  both times it was after a feeding where she chugged a lot at the breast and seemed to be waiting to breathe (ie taking in too much milk between breaths).

michael did this once a couple weeks ago & i called the pedi & the LC who both said it was ok as long as it didn't happen chronically.  he hasn't done it since.

do you think she is just eating too much too fast?  both times she also happened to be on "mighty righty" - my much faster let-down breast...

TIA for your thoughts on this.

  • no idea but i LOL'ed at mighty righty.

    ?

    hahaha?

  • I'd call - I think it's probably just her getting too much milk too fast (from the mighty righty ha ha!) and her little tummy saying "whoops!" but still, why not call and talk it over with the pro's just to make sure.
    Wheee!

  • we have spitup/vomiting very rarely, but mainly if he didn't like something I ate or he was sick/getting sick.  I think it is ok if it is sporadic.  even though it seems like a lot, they are getting nutrients.
  • thanks ladies!  she had another feeding that went well, with no spit up or anything, so as long as she does well the rest of the night i will prob just keep an eye on her, although i may call tomorrow just to be safe.

    thanks again :)

  • Patrick's spit up was always yellow (ish) because that was the color of my breastmilk.  If it is school bus yellow that would be more concerning.  Patrick threw up a TON those early months and I diagnosed him with reflux and got meds for him...but in retrospect, I saw very little improvement with the meds (he had colic too and the meds did not decrease the colic) and realize now that most babies spit up at times and some spit up more than others (mine).  I am not concerned about Daphne's spit up but call if you are worried or if she is acting "off".

  • Yellowish just means it is a bit digested.  Vomit can come from one big air bubble pushing a lot out at once, so it doesn't sound like something to be too concerned about.
