So I'd like to make one instead of shelling out 40 bucks to buy one. Now, I read somewhere that you buy jersey knit fabric, 5 yards and cut it to be 25 inches wide and viola! I just want to make sure this is correct before I go ahead and do it. tia!
I made mine 30" since the jersey knit I bought was 60" wide.....I just cut it in half and made two. It is a lot stretchier than the one I bought though, but I still plan on using it around the house this time.
My Moby (it's a "real" one) is 21.5 inches wide. ?Also, the regular Mobys are 5.5. yds (maybe meters?) long, and the Moby D's are 5 yds/meters. ?I wish mine was shorter... I'm a small person.
It really wouldn't matter though, I don't think, if the measurements were slightly different. ?Anything from 20-30 inches wide is probably fine, as is 4.5-6.5 yds/meters long, depending on your height/weight. ??
My personal preference is for 27" knit jersey -- that's enough for stable head to toe coverage for an infant and it's half the width of most fabrics. Interlock knit can be a bit narrower, since it's a firmer fabric than most jersey.
(all the Moby wraps I've seen have been interlock knit, while the Ultimate Baby Wrap is jersey)
I made my "moby" and used 23 inches for the width...it's perfect for me. I made mine 5.25 yards long. I'm 5'8" and fairly slim and it fits just right.
A good idea is to sew some ribbon or use an applique at the center so you don't have to work so hard to find the middle everytime you want to put it on.
