Following up from an earlier post... I would like to quote the movie Baby Mama... something like this "who's going to use a selfish epidural to give birth??"
OOOH OOOH :::points to self:::
I am ALL for the epidural, I'm not trying to win an award during childbirth! And all of you crazy ladies out there who are dead set against "interventions" and think that you are superior than me for going au naturale... bite me! ha! You dont get a medal in the delivery room for suffering miserably, your child won't be smarter than mine because you didn't have drugs, and you aren't a stronger person than me for "toughing it out"
Just wanted to throw that out there, I get nauseas reading about the fanatical ladies on here that are so indignant in believing that medical interventions are horrible and seem to want to re-live the 1800's or something. I bet you wouldn't want to re-live the death rate, disease rate, stillbirth rate, or anything like that now would ya!
That's all... ta ta for now ![]()

Re: Pain Meds? SIGN ME UP!
Wow.
This is just as judgmental, if not more so, than the 'crazy ladies out there who are dead set against interventions'.
It has nothing to do with superiority and everything to do with what I feel is best for me and my baby.
BTW - the stillbirth rates, disease rates, etc. have very little to do with pain meds and much more to do with inability to diagnose and treat life-threatening medical conditions and lack of good hygiene. In fact, there are multiple studies showing that many of the interventions that have become standard are being misused in America today and are in fact increasing poor outcomes for mothers and babies.
Which is not to say that interventions don't have their place - because they do. And while I intend to birth safely at home (safely in that I have a trained, experienced CNM and live within safe transport distance to a hospital), I will gladly take advantage of medical aid if it becomes necessary to do so.
I make no judgments on women who choose a different path than I do, so long as they make an educated decision. Your post is inaccurate and contains several statements that are just plain ignorant. So rest assured, my judgment comes not from the fact that you intend to have an epidural but from my opinion that you are judgmental and ignorant.

Ok, so do YOU want a medal for opting for the drugs? I don't really see the point of this incredibly immature post. Everyone has to make that decision individually and neither should be mocked or belittled.
As for reliving the "stillbirth rate" - that was just completely uncalled for, especially on a pregnancy board.

This.
My girl crush for you grows by the day. ?
Agreed. I want an epidural, but I can also understand the want for having a natural birth. I just have a very very low tolerance for pain...
Ahh yes the typical responses... I have two things to say and that's it, no sense in arguing over something like this...
1. It's too bad that you would call me ignorant, but judgement is typical on the Bump, I personally take no offense because the truth is that I happen to be a very highly educated, hmmm how should I put it, "medical professional" with a background in labor & delivery, pediatrics, and have spent countless rounds in the NICU, post partum, and mom & baby units... enough said.
2. I wasn't attacking women who choose a natural birth, to each his own. In fact I stated the "fanatical" women on here who choose to pass their judgement on people like me who have no problem using medical interventions to best suit myself and my baby. If you are not a "fanatical" person in this category, and you don't attack women with preferences such as my own then the post simply wasn't to address you- unfortunately you chose to take it personally... not my issue.
It's the classic saying "take what you want and leave the rest" if you don't like what I have to say, move on and disregard... what's the point in stressing... move on

Who are you to decide what is fanatical?
You're original post pretty much defines "fanatical" as someone who doesn't want medical intervention.?
