I was just re-reading over our hospital paperwork last night, and it says no photography during birth or right after.
I don't really care about the during part, but I want some pictures right after, like when DH goes over to check out the baby etc.
What is your hospital policy? Is this normal?
Re: Camera Policy at Hospital?
Hmm. I'm not sure about my hospitals policy DURING birth (not interested anyway), but after birth I know it's okay. Within 5 minute of my nephew being born we were all in there taking pictures and holding him. And same hospital as where I'll be.

Most hospitals won't let you take pics of the birth and right after(such as stitching you up) due to liability issues.
But taking pics of the kid being cleaned up and weighed is usually a-ok.
This!
just found out the policy at our tour on Saturday.
- still photos are fine anytime - but must be handheld (no tripods)
- video is allowed once the baby is out (also must be handheld)

I've never heard of a hospital with a policy about right after birth. Ours says no cameras during birth, but we took pics of DD about a minute after she was born.
Maybe see what their definition of "right after" is? Not sure if they mean seconds after, or if maybe after the baby is cleaned up and seems to be doing ok you can take pics.
Talk to your dr. He might give you permission.
i was present when my cousin had her baby last oct. She videoed her last two childbirths & that was to be my job. Nurse said it was a hospital policy not to allow taping. I flipped the camera on immediately after he came out (I was actually pretty impressed with my camera in one hand, video in the other skills), and the doc. asked why I hadn't video'd the birth. The doc can override the rules. They exist for medmal protection.
Something tells me that they have had trouble with people physically getting in the way right after when they have stuff to do - important stuff. So, from that POV I understand. Still - I expect to have a pic w/ the baby pretty soon after.
